Is my modem NBN Ready?

Hello we have a Modem a high spec one so im wondering if mine will work with NBN or will I need a new Modem?
I have a Router already that is NBN ready but im pretty sure i will need a modem.
So my Modem is ASUS DSL-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 will it work with NBN?
Update: I know about Modem now. I will have to buy a new one for HFC.

I have an ASUS RT-AC88U Wireless AC3100 Router that has to work with NBN HFC right?

    It'll be fine.. BUT if you're getting FttN/FttB you need to ensure it is set up correctly before NBN is connected.

    • so i looked up it says it cant use HFC and we will be getting nbn HFC im confused on what to do now

        NBN supply a HFC NTU (a basic cable modem) for HFC connections.
        You just need to supply a router.
        In your case connecting to the modem though the WAN port of the ASUS DSL-AC68U

        • Are basic cable modem any good?

          @shadowrukia:
          You don't get a choice.
          NBN supply the device that converts the signal sent over the Cable to your home into a data stream (they call it an NTD, to match the terminology used for FttP connections).
          You plug any router you want into that output.

          @shadowrukia:
          Yes, just as the DSL-AC68U will work.

          thank you for the help

        • sorry another question is the nbn hfc modem free or do you have to tell them and pay?

        • @shadowrukia:
          Free with your NBN install..
          NBN will likely charge you a $300 new development fee if you do not already have a Foxtel lead-in cable to your home..

    Yep. Make sure firmware is updated prior to connecting up otherwise you may block your port.

        Don't panic. It's compatible with HFC. It won't directly connect via coaxial port — it needs to be connected to your HFC modem first via ethernet. It should have a WAN port on the back.

  • Just want to confirm the DSL version is a modem+router? So this should work on fttn./fttb without requiring user login if set up correctly

    • yes

    FTTP / HFC = you only need router ; NBN will supply modem

    FTTN / FTTB = you need VDSL modem

    VDSL =/= ADSL
