Are We Paying Too Much Fees for Paperwork? Where and How Much Does The Fees Go to?

We have been struck with many rate rises and unknown rate cost every year. I am confused and finding hard to catch up on what are all these charges and what do they mean. What fees do you think shouldn't be charge or at least no so high? Where do the fees go? And how many % goes to administration? These are some of the questions to kick start the discussion, I hope this community could shed some light.

Car:
Car Registration - Where do the money goes? Admin?
Road Rescue Fee - Fireman? SES (but they are volunteer)?
Road Safety Contribution - Advertisement?
CTPI Regulator Levy - ???
Compulsory Third Party Insurance - Insurance
Tolls: for roads? safety and cameras?

House
Land Tax:
Council Rate:
Stamp Duty: Government revenue?
fire and emergency services levy: Fireman and SES again?
Safety families levy: Advertisement?
Internet connection fee
Water connection:
Gas Connection:
Sewage:

Income:
Tax: education, hospital etc
Medicare Levy: PBS?
Medicare Surcharge: NDIS?, Health
Health insurance usually only covers Medicare claim
ATM withdrawal?
Credit cardsurcharge: technology? wouldn't their high interest cover the cost?

Education:
Student Amenities fee: Child care?

Others:
GST: Government revenue?
Service charge: Business revenue additional to the goods and services revenue?

whats the point of this question?

Control the costs you can have a bearing over
    e.g. shop around for elec/gas/credit cards/insurance etc

You cant do much about council/state/federal taxes, levies, charges, administration costs

    • We could if we grouped together. I don't disagree with you btw, but I would ammend your suggest to
      * Spend 90% of your time controlling the costs you can have a bearing over
      * Spend the remaining time on costs you can't do much about -council/state/federal taxes, levies, charges, administration costs

As a spender don't you want to know where your money goes? If the big bro say yes and we do it doesn't that make us sheep?
Wouldn't it be like robbery? Do as you are told and not to question?

      • If the big bro say yes and we do it doesn't that make us sheep?

        no, it makes us realists

  • Q1. Are We Paying Too Much Fees for Paperwork?
How much are all of the services that we receive paperwork and not services?

Q2. Where and How Much Does The Fees Go to?
    To providing services.

Sorry, but, as SBOB said, what's the point of your questions?

    • The questions is what are we actually paying for? If you have used the services what are they? If money goes to social security and you used the services how have you benefited?

https://www.taxsuperandyou.gov.au/node/131/take This will answer some of your questions.

  • Yes, it is. The government follows the same ideas as private enterprise, and some time ago businesses decided they needed a way measure performance, so they could punish the bad and reward the good. Because a comparable standard for the real world is hard to find, they decided to use past performance, so that every year, everyone has to do better than the year before, or else they are considered to have done a bad job. Everyone followed along, and it has caused so many problems since. This is just another one of them.

It is entirely bs, but there's not a lot you can do about it. The fees are structured so that even if you could call up and get them removed, it wouldn't be worth the time individually to do it.

*all just a theory, never actually had first hand experience.

  • Any bargains?

      1 nutter, going cheap!

    REALLY!?

Ok lets pick a few out and see

    Water connection

Those pipes in the ground to supply water cost money to install and look after. Who do you think pays for a busted water pipe?

    Sewage

As above. Waste that leaves the house gets treated.

    Gas Connection

    See above

    Council Rate

All those footpaths, roads, local parks, cleaning of gutters etc need to be paid by someone

    Internet connection fee

You mean the fee you pay to have the internet on? Don't have it on then

    ATM withdrawal

Its free when you use a ATM that your BANK owns. If you use someones elses ATM, you get a fee. I mean how else do they paid for supplying you a service? You're not their customer, they are providing you a service. Use your banks own network of ATMs and no fees. Simple.

    GST: Government revenue

Gotta pay for roads/health/public transport/schools and the billion other things you expect the gov to provide for free

    fire and emergency services levy

You do know its 'free' to have the fireman come out and put your fire out. Would you rather your house burn down, while you try to find a credit card they'll accept BEFORE putting the fire out?

Health insurance usually only covers Medicare claim

Yeah nah, covers way more than that.

Credit cardsurcharge: technology? wouldn't their high interest cover the cost?

Charged by your credit card provider to the shop, so they pass it on to you. Stop using your credit card and enjoy no fees.

Again, those machines cost money to run, the network covers you for fraud and a few other things. So someone has to pay.

Firstly, I am not expecting things to be free. Watching utopia looking at the government policy. What are we paying for? is it value for money? or does it go to some big consultancy companies and little work is actually done. Are we getting a good deal here? Are we of the best interest for the money we paid for? How long does it takes to fix the road, How much money does the bank save by being cashless, How often does the water pipe bust, technically they are charging the services that has not occurred or may not occur with a cost that is undetermined. As I write it sounds like most fees are insurances rather than services.

      E.g.

Similarly, the Department of Social Services spends $5,500m every year just in admin costs. Again, an average of over $160,000 per employee — and they’re not even the worst offenders. The Federal Department of Health employs 4500 people, costing $222,000 each. That’s a big number, especially since health spending is largely a state government remit. Then, finally, we have the Department of Foreign Affairs, whose 7000-plus employees cost taxpayers $240,000 each

      • is it value for money?

That depends, on where you live, how old you are, if you're healthy or not.

No system is going to be perfect, you'll always have someone not happy with how the money is spent.

  • Federal and State Governments in Oz are pretty much all in the red. So we're not even paying enough for the services bureaucracy they are providing.

Also, most of the Federal budget goes to Centrelink recipients. Apparently 1 in 5 Australians receive some kind of payment from Centrelink. Whereas 30 years ago it was 1 in 20.
