Medibank Is Trying to Avoid Premium Refund. Please Help!

My dad closed Medibank Health Insurance and he was given closure request no. along with refund amount he would be getting. He was advised that he would receive closure email in next 24 hours.

He received an email next day stating that they have reinstated his policy. Also they will do audit and only refund unused premium of roughly $200 after their satisfaction.

This seems BS to me as he told them that he was travelling overseas for an unknown period during policy closure call and I believe they are now creating hassle and making excuses to avoid refunding premium.

What he could do as he is travelling this weekend?

  • Call Medibank or go to their branch? http://www.medibank.com.au/contact-us/

    • He has already spoken to them twice but they are saying they will post letter and he must reply within 14 days.

I don't understand these dumb consultants..

      • Send them a email, wait. if that fails. http://www.ombudsman.gov.au/about/private-health-insurance

        • Thanks

      • They told me that they have posted a letter with my refund .. and it was back in June.
I haven't received it yet LOL.
The Ombudsman fixed it for me. When I spoke to them, going by their response … it felt like a common occurrence and they are used to the complaints

  • Good luck with this mob.

I was with them for many years and gave them the boot.

It took me nearly 2 months to get my refund … and for that to happen, I needed to get the Ombudsman involved LOL.

    After privatisation = Rubbish Medifail

Tip = Email them first to their Customer complaints of the issue. Wait for a response.

Then when they stuff you around (which is expected), no response or resolution after a while then contact the Ombudsman.

Read their reviews as they are horrific

    Good luck

    • Thanks for the advice.

    • I switched to another provider from Medibank earlier this year. My refund was processed promptly with no chasing on my part. If I recall correctly, the balance was deposited into my bank account within 2 weeks of cancelling.

So it's not all doom and gloom.

      • Then if I was you, I would recommend to play the lotto this weekend! Who know's, 1st division might be yours LOL

By the way, considering that Medibank was very prompt and professional how they conducted your refund with due diligence, then why did you leave them if you don't mind me asking?

They have lost a very valuable and revenue generating customer!

        • Because I switched to another provider to get a one month free sign-up bonus. The actual offer was no better or worse than Medibank but it came out in front with the one month free. And to be fair, Medibank did call me to confirm the cancellation and also offer one month free if I stuck with them, I just didn't go through with it because I'd already invested about an hour of my time on the phone with the new lot.

        • @musthazbargains:

          Totally understandable.

I am sure you have never claimed with them?

Many organisations are all the same, you give them a chance to match the competitors' price and when you switch, then they try to keep you by price matching after the fact.
They think that you are bluffing however obliviously this wasn't the case.

          Well it's too late LOL

They are still crap imo. I have had a terrible experience with them.

          Each to their own
