Laptop for Image Editing/Video Rendering

Hi OzBargain,

I am hoping for some assistance on this. My employer is able to provide me with a laptop (I realise a desktop would be better, but is not an option since I will also be using it to work at home) that will mainly be used for image editing and video rendering. My understanding that a higher number of cores in the processor makes for faster rendering but it will also need to be snappy for large Photoshop files.

What would be the best option in the range of;

1) Sub $1000
2) $1000-$1500
3) $1501-$2000

Thanks in advance

  • If video/editing is key here, I would forego the first 2 levels and just look purely at ones above $1500. You can't skimp on power for editing and rendering video. I would go with an i7 cpu at least, and up the ram to 32gb and don't forget the video card. The latest ones probably comes with 4GB GPU and that'll be very useful for you. In this case, you get what you pay for — and if your boss is footing the bill, then go for the best available to maximize your productivity

    • I figured that would be the case but I thought I'd put those 2 price brackets there just in case there was something I didn't know.

      Thanks for the reply

  • You could be looking at a Metabox Clevo laptop, which you can customize with a range of i5/i7 HQ CPU's. price start from $1500 onwards.

    Lenovo E570P also fits the bill, with a HQ CPU by default and starting at just over $1100 for the lowest end config of 8GB RAM, SSD only with no hard drive.

    and close to $1500 if you want the version with i7 CPU, 16GB RAM and 240 SSD + 1TB HDD combo.

    • Thanks for the reply, I was thinking it would probably be a lenovo since there are so many deals that come up on here.

      The i7/16/240 combo looks like it might be the winner.
