Last Minute Flight Needed to London from Sydney

Needed due to grandma being sick.

Have tried Lastminute.com.au and skyscanner.

Best price is $1739 rtn tomorrow with Cathay Pacific. Can you find cheaper?

One way is fine too if cheap.

    • Wow what a long flight

      • It is cheap, short flights at short notice cost.

    • I appreciate the effort, but my mum will be going with me and I reckon she's too old to handle that kind of flight. Thanks for the effort though, a very good price.

        Hi,

There are two good options that are less cheap but offer shorter overall flight durations.

        Look at:
        SYD-DOH-LHR on Qatar

        or

        SYD-SIN-LHR on British

        Hope this is of assistance.

          Thanks. It is.

  • Do you have a UK passport? And when did you plan to return?

Since it's normally less than twice the price of a one-way ticket for a return ticket it's often considered suspicious at UK Border Control. "How did you plan to make money for your return ticket?". Sometimes they even ask for a return ticket to Australia (and not just an exit ticket) since for only a few euros you can fly out of the country. I don't know how tough the airline check-ins themselves would be (I went on a working holiday visa so it's expected).

Of course if you were there until March you might find cheaper return tickets.

    • I have had this problem. I am British, wife is Australian… No return flight was problematic at immigration… I had to prove I had enough money to buy another ticket and she had to demonstrate she had a job to go back to in Aus.. I was very annoying after a 24 hours flight.

    • I do have dual passports. My mum, who needs to go too could probably stay until March (and might want to).

      • To be honest, leaving tomorrow for a return flight the savings won't be impressive whatever you do. A few hundred at most. The fact you need shorter overall flights for your mother makes it even harder (and you probably want to travel together).

If you were leaving in a few weeks you'd have tonnes more options, but this is obviously not the aim. As someone else pointed out, there are cheap, short-stopover options on Tuesday, but it isn't exactly last minute. With Philippine Airlines you'd arrive at around 8:35 pm in London on Tuesday. But returning on say 24 November 2017 would only cost $1306 return with Aunt Betty (you can just search with Skyscanner).

One way booked with BYOJet (searched via Momondo) with Philippine Air is only $650 one way on Tuesday, which is cheap for any time. Coming back one way you can do the Norwegian Air/Scoot combo hack (Momondo shows it automatically) but it may be too risky to not sleep in Singapore overnight and that may be a hassle (and extra cost) for your mother.
        .

Thanks. I’ve since booked a flight. It wasn’t so cheap, but really appreciate everyone’s opinion.

I did post in case there was an option that I hadn’t considered.

No flight advice from me, but I hope your grandmother is doing well OP. Best wishes for your mother too. Being a long distance away during troubling times is extra difficult.
