Weird Audio Playback Issue on Redmi 4X

Gday

Got the Redmi 4X a little while back and despite some initial issues i really like the phone overall, but there's one issue it's had from day 1 that's bugging me.

Any audio file longer than 40 minutes or so seems to have some kind of data read error. You can't skip to any farther than that point in any such file or it just loops to the beginning, even tho the player indicates it's playing from 50 mins in or so. Also, the resume function doesn't work at all with these files.

This is an issue since i listen to podcasts and this still works fine on any junker phone (am currently using a bluboo junker for music since the redmi seems useless in this regard). Also i have tried multiple players, native and third party (Rocket Player) with no difference.

This can't only be me? Can anoyne please help to cast some light on this issue?

Thx!

Interesting problem. Seems to affect random Android models somehow, could be memory related. This feed recommends trialling Poweramp - worked in this case but you'd have to buy it as a long term fix for $4.

    • Thanks, i had a read and yes, that person does seem to have the same issue. I'd gladly pay $4 if it works for this app, the only issue i have is -

i listen to music & play POke-Go at the same time. Should be simple enough but not all music players have an option to maintain focus/ignore other apps and keep playing over them. So assuming poweramp does that fine, i might switch to that. I'll definitely try it out today.

I still wonder why this issue exists though, for a phone that is SUCH an upgrade from every other phone ive owned, it's odd to have such a peculiar problem.

      • Can you run it in MX Player? Don't know if it runs audio, but I remember you can change between hardware and software decorders? One might work better then the other? (As you can tell I don't really know what I'm talking about, but might be worth a try)

  • Is it running genuine MIUI or a custom ROM, or some hacked MIUI ROM?

If it's running MIUI and you're unsure if it's genuine or hacked, unlock the bootloader officially and flash MIUI from Xiaomi.

Have you done a full factory reset?

I assume it's genuine? I dont know.. i bought it from the lightinthebox deal posted here a couple of months ago and the comments all said it was a genuine global rom.

Anyhow, just to update, Halo was right and Poweramp works perfectly so i just purchased that one, it also has the desirable audio focus/scrobbling options for me so i've gone ahead and purchased it. I dont know why that app works when no others do - something to do with buffering size perhaps?
