DIY Replacement of LED TV Back-Lighting - Anyone Tried This?

Last night while watching my Samsung LED (series 6) I noticed a flashing across the center of the screen. After a few moments it stopped flashing and now the screen has a much darker horizontal band/stripe around 5 cm high right in the center of the action (which is very annoying).

Seems like one of the LED backlight strips isn't lighting. The TV is out of warranty so will cost $200 minimum to attempt a repair through Samsung (no guarantee of success).

There are a few videos on YouTube of folks taking apart a TV and replacing the LED backlighting themselves. Has anyone here done it? It doesn’t look impossibly difficult, but the largest electronic repair I’ve attempted in the past is replacing an iPod battery :/

Hoping someone here has some tips for me…?

You would be asking user altomic, think he'd be the most knowledgeable person to ask about electronics.

I know you said it is out of warranty, but how far out?

Call Samsung. Depending on how old the TV is I'd argue you have some ACL rights.
