  • Save 38% off any Latitude E5410 or E5510 priced at a LIST price of $999 or more

and i cant get any of those laptops to be over 999$, + they are already on special… so >.< dont really see it as a good deal? Unless you can explain if im doing it wrong

    • Add features/upgrades until the price is over $999.00.

      • I did… the most i could get it to was 979… You try man. And it seems to already have a discount. Is that the coupon discount or something else. You post a system you can see over 999$ with the 2 laptops your restricted to…

        • I've already tried it multiple times and it works. You can easily get it over $999.00.

Yes, there is already a standard discount applied but that is not the coupon code I gave. With my coupon code you will get extra discount.

EDIT: also make sure you are on the Dell USA site.

    • +6

No, but you can use a US mail forwarder as I mentioned in my deal post. Even with extra freight you're saving going on 50% compared to Dell Australia prices.

The Dell warranty is also valid internationally as long as you complete the online International Ownership Transfer Form.

    • +5

you negged because you didnt read the post properly about using a mail forwarder?

      • -2

I'm not sure that info was there when I posted. It was seconds after the deal was submitted.

God this site has gone to shit compared to 2 years ago.

    • +1

OK I took the neg off but FFS if we're going to count mail forwarders as bargains, we're about to be swamped with a lot of shit on this site.

      • +2

personally I don't really care if I have to use a mail forwarder, I must get the item that is being offered at a BARGAIN price and I am happy

        • +2

Yeah, I don't care if my bargain comes from the moon — a bargain is a bargain.

In fact the Dell laptop you order from the US is probably assembled in the same factory in China as the laptop you buy from Dell AU.

  • +2

Props to camelgrass for a detailed OP

  • who would you recommend for a mail forwarder?

nice looking build on the new Latitude

    here's a video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCu8R5XpVHo

Do you need a US credit card to pay at the Dell US site? How long does the registration process take at Shipito? I have set up an account with Shipito.com, but now it's asking for "upload of ID docs"? How long does the verification process take, i.e. will I make it before the Dell Coupon expires today? Thx for advice.

    • The coupon expires 27th (today) but you will probably have until at least midday tomorrow AU time because coupon is US time.

You can use PayPal for payment.

  • +1

    damn

    no HDMI or DP

    what a big omission

  • It would be good to have some big discounts on Alienware M17x

  • +1

I have read in forums that "Ownership transfer" and "warranty" are different things and only the "Next Business day" type 3-year warranty is transferable.

    • +1

I called Dell and personally talked to a rep and I confirmed that ANY Dell warranty is valid internationally as long as you complete the online form I linked to.

I can only take the reps word. You can always call Dell to double-check.

The same form is used for transfer of ownership and/or warranty unless you're in the US there is a different form.

      • Thanks camelgrass for clarification.

  • I think it's good time to shop around Dell US sites for laptop. Or Amazon Kindle kind of.

As for US mail/parcel forwarding company, I thought Shipito was the best but probably, I would use
    http://www.viaddress.com/

    the good points;
    cheaper international shipping fees
    shopping assistance service free

I haven't used their service yet but surely it looks worth trying at least.
anyone used them before, please leave feedback.

    • +1

I read mixed reviews about them.

I use Shipito and comGateway both I have never had a problem with.

      • Comgateway user here. Very prompt delivery and reasonable prices.

$15 discount from hopshopgo. Never used them but backed up by Paypal so it should be safe.

    • +1

Never used them but backed up by Paypal so it should be safe.

Wait until paypal freezes your account (with money in it) for no reason and provides you with no explanation or time for when they will unfreeze it.

Look at the protection provided with your credit card. Paypal is no safer.

      • also trying to lodge a dispute with paypal is an absolute pain in the backside. I had always thought "at least I'm safe as I paid with Paypal", but when you need them to cough up they make you do all the legwork

        • -1

My experience has been quite different. I have twice had eBay sellers run off with my money, and both times getting the money back was very easy. It took a while (around 40 days), but I received refunds in full. It helped that the sellers remained silent and didn't dispute my claims.

        • -1

PayPal claims couldn't be easier, you must be doing it wrong.

I've had to make claims, as both a buyer and a seller many times and it has always ended with an agreeable arrangement.

      • PayPal has never done that to me.

As Cluster has experienced I also didn't receive an eBay item I purchased and received a full refund from PayPal.

PayPal is safer insofar that you always know that your transaction and personal details are secure and encrypted. It's not the same when you have to send your credit card details over the interwebs sometimes with an online merchant that you have never dealt with before.

  • Excellent post. Very well put together. And I had no idea about the warranty transfer. Thanks.

Although, admittedly, I'm not a fan of Dell. The only time I tried to buy a monitor from them the voucher broke and they kept coercing me (via chat) for my phone number… and then never called. So my trust has waned further. I'd still like an UltraSharp U2211H at the right price, though.

  • ref Latitude E5410, Fast Track C2, why is only Genuine Windows® 7 Professional, 32-bit offered and not 64bit and no hdmi on many Dell models?

  • Anything with a decent graphics card as an option?

  • What about power supplies? Isn't US power 110V?

    • +1

All laptop chargers will work in the voltage range 110-240.
You will need to buy a power cable so you can plug it into an Australian power point.

  • cant add video card?

    • These are business laptops, so it's natural that some of them don't feature dedicated GPU's.

  • Do I have to use a US credit card to purchase from the Dell USA store?

    • +1

as far as I understand, yes you have to use credit card issued in US.

      • So how do we purchase this as I most people here won't have a US credit card

        • If your credit card doesn't work you can use PayPal.

  • What kind of savings are you getting over local Aussie prices, once you take into account shipping and credit card fees etc?

    • -1

Easy to check for yourself, just compare the prices on the AU and US sites.

Depending on the model — a lot!

    • I'm currently pricing a Studio 15 laptop for purchase. i5-460M 2.53Ghz CPU, Win7 Pro 64, 6Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD. I'm trying to get the same config between machines but it's difficult on Dell's site. Dell seems to make judgments on behalf of its customers about what they want in certain countries. Annoying, at best.

      Spec differences:

      AU laptop:
      1366x768 screen
      ATI gfx card

      USA laptop: 1920x1080 screen
      Intel onboard gfx

US$1080 versus AU$1510. The AU Studio 15 doesn't give an option for a 1920x1080 screen (why Dell!?), while the USA machine is stuck with Intel graphics. I would rather have the USA version with the nice hi-res screen.

Couple of interesting things: Upgrading from Win7 Home to Pro is much more expensive in the USA (double the price of the AU site).

      • Note that savings on the Latitude range will be greater compared to Dell AU price.

Cluster, did you check the Latitude E6510? They also have option of FHD screen.

        • I configed a Latitude E6510 on both sites with identical specs. Funnily enough, the AU site allows a 1920x1080 screen, the US site does not. I don't quite understand Dell :-)

Anyway, same spec machines: AU$2658 versus US$1222. Big difference, even without the special discount coupon.

        • Yes Latitude is a rip off over here in Australia. I guess they figured out only big corporates buy them, and for them initial purchase price is just a small part of cost of ownership.

  • Maybe I'm doing something wrong but the 38% discount only applies to the full list price (i.e. replaces the existing discount) Or am I being too greedy for wanting the 38% discount on top of the already discounted price?

    • Yes, if the list price is over $999.00 it replaces the standard discount with the 38% discount when you apply the coupon code.

  • You might as well post a link to FatWallet or Slickdeals and a link to shipto.com……..

    • I already posted a link to shipito.com in my original post. Regarding those other sites I don't understand the relevance.

  • http://www.priceusa.com.au/ has a good reputation on Whirlpool - dunno how it compares pricewise

    • they probably cheaper if an order is less then USD$200 otherwise they charge 5% fee on top of item's purchasing price

  • +4

Surprised nobody has mentioned this - beware if the order is over AU$1000 value you will have to pay 10% GST on arrival.

I'm going to neg this post for now to help draw attention to this fact so that people know what they should expect. Once the post is updated to contain this, i'll remove it.

    • Thanks quackster, that's a good point.

Note that freight cost is not assessed for GST, only the value of goods.

You can neg all you want, no skin off my nose. I thought most people would be aware of that fact anyway if they are importing. But thanks for alerting those that are unaware of this. I can't be bothered updating the original deal.

      • The duty free limit on air mail is $1000, but air cargo is just $250. Air cargo is any sort of express air mail (EMS, Fedex, DHL, etc).

Customs take the value of the goods and postage to be the value of the item when calculating GST. I imported a laptop and camera on separate occasions and both times had an argument with the Customs agent about it. I said postage adds nothing to the value of the item. He pointed to the final price paid on the invoice and said that's what I've got to pay.

Also don't forget the Customs fee on top of the GST. Thanks for pointing out the GST/fee issue quackster. I had completely forgotten about it.

        • I would be very surprised if for example the shipito.com postage cost was included for assessing GST payable. All advice I have is otherwise. Anyway the invoice for the laptop from Dell will not have any freight on it and that is the invoice that will be used to determine the value of the goods.

I am very happy to be proven otherwise, for my own sake as well. Cluster you are the first person that I have heard that advice from.

That's a good point you make about the $1000 GST free limit being for posted items only. I had forgotten about that. It's a shame because FedEx is actually cheaper than post when using shipito.com.

        • +2

Not any more, that changed over 5 years ago.

The GST free limit is $1000 regardless on the method the item comes into Australia

I would be very surprised if for example the shipito.com postage cost was included for assessing GST payable

        Yes it is.

        http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp

        • I don't see any specific information on that page you linked to that supports your view.

          It does say:
GST is paid on the Value of the Taxable Importation (VoTI).

The VoTI calculation includes freight but it's only used for taxable importations.

It doesn't say whether freight is determined to be part of the customs value (value of the goods) which ultimately determines whether an import is taxable or not and is a different matter altogether.

EDIT: rereading your post I get your point now. Yes, if the customs value is above AU$1000, freight IS included in the GST calculation. The point I was trying to make is that the freight component is not used to determine whether an import is taxable or not.

    • Do Dell notebooks still come in those massive boxes these days? If your forwarding service does consolidation/repackaging you may be able to get around it.

      • I'd rather have it in a large box anyway, better for protection of laptop during transit. I don't think it would make a huge difference in freight cost anyway.

      • Air mail is charged by weight not volume. I would want my new laptop to arrive in sturdy packaging anyway.

        • No.

It is charged by weight or volume, whichever is greater.

You cannot send a box the same size as a car for the same price as a shoebox.
One takes up lots of space on a plane and the other takes up a small amount of space.

You will pay more for the car size box because it means that the plane can carry less other items because of how much space your car sized box takes up.

        • Sorry I meant get around declaring the value of your package. It's a bit obvious if it rocks up in a big Dell box.

        • My comment about charging by weight and not volume is true for Australia Post air mail. They only want to know how much it weighs and charge accordingly (up to 20kg). Domestic post is charged by weight or size, whichever is more.

Obviously a car sized package is not going to be just 20kg, and one imagines reasonable limits apply to Australia Post's air mail service.

  • camelgrass

    • I don't think you can pay with paypal because the Dell website checks whether you have a US paypal address.
    • If you are buying from dell USA then they will only ship to a US address.
So you will need to have the laptop sent to a US address.

    • I just found out that Dell USA WILL accept Australian-issued credit cards for payment.

  • I know that Bongo ships to AU frequently. They do consolidate (tracking/images avail./P.O.D./insure as well). Anthony is right (under $1,000 is GST free). Once I had my mailbox with Bongo, I was able to shop on any U.S. site - regardless if they accept US cards only. Quite easy.

  • Not quite expired yet (still the 27th in the US).

"Save 38% off any Latitude E5410 or E5510 priced at a LIST price of $999 or more"
At a LIST price on the cart is kinda curious, wonder if Dell with honor custom builds.

  • If it's over AU $1000 value, there is a 5% customs duty you have to pay, then the additional 10% for GST(on the computer, delivery fees, and customs duty).

  • How can i pay for it without US credit card?

    • They accept Australian-issued credit cards or PayPal.

Don't listen to the other comments here saying they only accept US-issued credit cards.
