Anyone Know a Place (Sydney) That Does Hackintosh Builds?

So I need to get a cheap computer to run sketch on Mac OS.

Just bout myself a $2500 PC so don't want to buy a Mac if I don't have to. Wondering what my options are? Buying a refurb Macbook on Apple store is still massively expensive. Thinking maybe I could pay someone to setup a Mac OS to run on a new hardrive installed on my Ryzen PC that I could use in conjunction with the standard windows on my main hard drive. Is there a company or business out there that offers this service or am I better off just buying a Macbook off some ex student on FB marketplace?

Any other options appreciated.

Believe me as a graphic designer for the past 15 years I've done well to avoid joining the dark side with the other apple fanboys in the design world (99.9%). This reply proves pretty much why i detest them so much.

Because they are capable of constructing a coherent sentence? I understand.

Yeah because no one ever made a spelling error on the internet before

Oh, they have the internet on computers now!

  • i dont think hackintosh support ryzen anyway.

    • ryzen works with hackintosh.

Buy a second hand Lenovo x220i notebook and DIY. It's a well supported Hackintosh and works well as my colleague has done it before.

  • You cant haz a hackintosh if you cant hack it yourselfs.

    1. illegall, it breaches Apples EULA.
    2. needs a techy to keep it purring, no automatic updates on this baby.
    3. no store with an abn will do the job, see 1 (unless they too blind to see the writing on the wall).
    4. ryzens dont hackintosh well.

Get VMware, patch it so that you can run Mac OS on it, download Mac OS software from Apple, then install a virtual machine image with Mac OS on your PC. Runs perfectly fine

    • This seems like the most viable option other than buying a a cheap second hand mac. This hackintosh thing seems crazy hard I've seen peoples youtube videos saying it took them 50+ hours to get it going.

I literally need it for one app that does not run on PC i run all my adobe software off.

I'll do a bit more research on this one thanks for your help.

You're welcome. I used my MacOS vmware image to do Apple app development(would only run on MacOS, so same reason as you) and it worked great for my purposes. Didn't encounter any compatibility issues or anything like that.

You can easily find the required software on a bay associated with privateers on the open seas.

      • Sketch?

    • Run macos in VirtualBox on the Windows PC he's already got. Instructions exist via google.

      • I've run MacOS on my PC using both VirtualBox and VMWare. VMware was much easier and had less problems than Virtualbox. Just my experience, but that's what I found in my experience.

        • I've seen the converse, with VMWare being hassle to setup, and VirtualBox being easier for the idiot.

Mind, I use KVM most of the time…

Either way, since the need is just one simple app, if it works, it works.

Just learn how to do it online, and do it yourself.
There's no-one that will do it for you, unless its someone like a friend.

You may have to end up changing some of your hardware to get proper support:
    eg/ GPU, Motherboard, CPU
(headsup: OS X is friendly to Intel CPU's and AMD GPU's)

There won't be Automatic updates, but that's no big deal.
You won't be able to connect to iTunes and use an Apple account or Continuum… unless you change some system files so your Device ID does the proper handshake with Apple's Services. Its possible, but a headache to configure. Some say its worth the trouble.

Without iTunes/Services you cannot install Applications. Luckily this is OS X and not iOS, so Apple still allows you to Side-Load applications…. by allowing you to Download any Executables from the Web browser then initiate the Installer on it.

    Best of luck!

      ^^ this

hackintoshes are pretty easy to build.

Intel CPU is easiest to use. know the specs of the hardware. follow the guide for installing. done.

I've done half a dozen over the last 6 years.

what I have found very surprising was how easy it was to take the HDD out of a hackintosh and put it in another (as long as the specs are somewhat similar) thread form 4 years ago

I have a powermac G4 in my shed that is halfway through a bastardisation/hacintosh hack. I picked up the G4 as hard rubbish in Japan 14 years ago and it served well for years, but the MB died. i like it so I removed the MB added a newer intel mb with superior specs , have altered the I/O board to fit the back of the case. now just need to fit a PSU and I'll have a G4 capable of running sierra/high sierra

      • Hey guys thanks for your replies I guess I'm just lazy and need it done quickly thought there might be some random shop that does hacks like how you can find someone to build your computer or jailbreak your phone.

As i was saying i need it to run one app (sketch) i run everything else (adobe apps) on the PC just fine.

I used the old G4 back in uni days was such a solid unit. I remember we only 3 units and the rest of the computer lab was g3s all the animation students would get in early just to hog the g4s and render out their work haha… good times.

No business would do hackintoshes and advertise online that they're selling / making hackintosh computers,

Psystar Corp was an example of a company that got sued when Apple found out that they were distributing and selling computers loaded with OSX. (total payment @ 2.7 million USD) Since then no business would be ballsy enough to follow in their footsteps.

        • @scrimshaw:

Hey Scrimshaw you helped me out with my PC build just wanted to say its all running sweet doing a bit of editing with premiere and it all renders like a breeze. Thanks for your suggestions…

With the hackintosh thing looks like I'm try the Vmware option as suggested above looks a bit easier to run than doing a full hackintosh since its not like i need to run Mac Os constantly just need to school myself up on the sketch app for a job im going to be doing. if the sketch app becomes a regular thing i'll probably just bite the bullet and buy a macbook urghhhh.
