No Cashback Via Cashrewards for DanMurphys if *Any* Other Promotion in Play

Just a head's up. I haven't had cashback from Dan Murphy's approved via Cashrewards for my past five purchases this year (totalling nearly $1,200). All have taken ages to be processed (one, for example, for an order of over $400 from 18/1 was finally declined on 11/9 yep nearly 8 months later).

I asked Cashrewards about it and got the packaged answer:

Just a few of the reasons cash back is declined are as follows, there is not one broad brush reason we can give you because every store has different reasons but these are the most common :
Transactions being fully or partially returned
Transactions being fully or partially refunded
Transactions being attributed to a different channel
A coupon being used that was not advertised on the Cashrewards.com.au site

I have never returned or required a refund from Dans, and only use cashrewards. A number of my purchases this year (as in past years) have taken advantage of specials such as "buy this mixed dozen and get this extra bottle for free" or "$nn off these whiskey glasses" or in one case credit back via amexrewards. Basically, it appears if you take advantage of any sort of promotion from Dan Murphy it is likely to invalidate a cashrewards claim even if it is not technically a coupon. I suspect that since the start of 2017, Dan's is now considering any form of discount or special deal on any goods in an order invalidates a Cashrewards claim.

Having said all that, I know at least two of my orders did not take advantage of anything other than their normal advertised prices. I've found Cashrewards in general to be pretty reliable, but from now on I will assume that it doesn't work with Dan's and will factor that in when buying online and comparing prices with the likes of winemarket, gwd, and cellarmasters who do seem to approve purchases both reliably and quickly.

By the way, last year Dan's averaged 74 calendar days to process my claims (based on 4 orders). This year they are averaging 145 days (based on 4 orders, excluding one that is still pending).

  • I've found Cashrewards in general to be pretty reliable,

Same, but that said, I just put in a few claims for cashback rewards the other day. All my recent banggood orders are not showing up, one for gasp godaddy also didn't show up and one from ebay.

While many others during these periods worked and being tracked. So not sure whats up. Normally never had any issues.

    • Interesting - now you mention that, I see that one banggood order in August didn't appear either. It was only for about $9 so under $0.40 cashback…. I know, every $0.01 counts… ;-)

    • Have you been using coupons that aren't listed on CR with Banggood?

Cashback may not be payable if you use a coupon code that is not listed on this site.

      • No coupons used on Banggood and like @PlasticSpaceman not massive orders, but more the principle of missing orders, every cent counts!

        • I totally agree. Can you please PM me your CR email address. Would like to check a few things (AdBlock etc). Also, you're aware that last click needs to be CR, and not OzB right? Any click to a merchant via a non-logged in OzB session attributes the sale to OzB (just an fyi).

        • +1

@tightarse: I've already lodged missing claims, so happy to wait and see.

Yes aware last click has to be CR, the time stamps on clicking CR and ordering are normally under a few minutes. I use the toolbar, it tells me its 'active'.

I don't normally make CR active until I'm ready to buy for the reasons above you have said.

  • Hi there. Your large $400 transaction was declined because you used (as stated in your OP) an AmEx card and received an AmEx credit, possibly from this deal.

The T&Cs on Dan Murphy's merchant page state…

Rewards are not payable when used in conjunction with payment by a Groupon Woolworths voucher or other third party promotional offers & vouchers.

Dan Murphy's (and many other merchants) will not pay out twice on advertising (in this case CR & AmEx) and they have made this blatantly clear to us. The fact the decline took 8 months has nothing to do with Cashrewards. This is how long Dan Murphy's took to process the order and make a call on declining the cashback.

As for your other transactions, I can't comment without knowing the details. Happy to investigate further, but I'll need your CR email address and transaction details. Thanks, TA.

    • Nah - good thought but I claimed the Amex credit on one of my orders on 3/1 and the larger order was 18/1 and I used my Visa for that. That I expect was (eventually) declined because the collection of wine I bought was on special that was "not advertised on the Cashrewards.com.au site". I accept that, but it is a gotcha that other companies don't seem to apply.

I understand that both the delay as well as the declining is not Cashrewards fault, so definitely do not have an issue with CR. Thanks for the offer re investigation - I'll wait and see what happens with the last order from 12/5 that is still in a holding pattern - I know that had no special coupons or deals associated with it, so will see if that is eventually declined.

      Cheers

    • Thanks. This may explain why some of my DM cashbacks are 0.00 and it's not limited to CR. Looks that their profit margin is so thin that they have to invest to block double dipping.

    • I too have had almost 50 dan Murphy's transactions rejected after taking as long as 400 days processing.

And all i get are cut and paste rejections

Follow it up with cashrewards and just as many cut and paste replies with refusal to help.

      Ive stopped using cashrewards

      • +1

I'm going to stop bothering to use CR for DM purchases, and instead use wish cards (I can get them for 5% off through work). I'll still use CR for other purchases though.

Please note - I do not blame CR for any of this. It is purely up to DM how long it takes to process claims, and whether they choose to approve or decline…..

        • I still have one pending

          21 Nov 2016 Dan Murphy's 28/12/2016 AUD417.09 AUD 23.67

I even enquired about it and got told to wait!

I think ive been patient enough :)
maybe one of their strategies to get customers to give up

  • The delay in getting DM transactions approved is very long, and has always been so.
Considering other sites do it in a quarter of the time, I'm not sure what DMs problem is.

  • I don't keep track of the purchases I make using CR, but this post got me concerned so I went to see my history and since I do not keep track I cannot be sure of when I should have received a reward. But what I did notice was that the whole month of August I apparently activated CR for quite a few shops (20x's)but I have not receive a single reward for the month??? I would have to search through past purchases to double check if I made any but I doubt I did not make a single one during August.

What happened to my rewards for August? now I wonder how many have been missed in the past?

I will have to do some more research on this but I am concerned for sure.

  • Once again ive been contacted by TA, who has offered to help and resolve and its their number one priority which is nice on paper

an investigation has started (apparently), and now im starting from them to get excuses of why nothing will be done,

ive even said to them if you fix my issues, I will go back to recommendeding and using your services, which is fair,

but judging by their responses including, declining transactions based on facts that never occurred, is pretty insulting,

and to be asked to resubmit the evidence all over again, and after doing it, ignoring is pretty poor,

pricepal isnt perfect as well, but they are far better in the grand scheme of things

  • Well, I gave CR the benefit of the doubt and allowed them to investigate the dan murphys claim on behalf of my friend,

they asked for more info including questions about what time of day I was doign the transactions, and then they asked for another round of invoices,

since then nothing, I have seen the follow up emails politely asking for an update, and followed by 2 other firmer ones,

    not even a single reply,
so some of these cash backs apparently go back to Dec 2016

so its obvious they try and smooth the custoemr out by pretending to investigate,

thankfully that person has made the move to pricepal, and although I dont use it, I will be recommending pricepal to all my friends to

    thank you cashrewards

edit: im sure im going to get negged for this post, which is fine, just trying to help my friend out who is short changed thousands
