Will UK PS4 work in Australia?

My son's birthday is coming up, and also xmas, it's quite feasible I will end up getting him a PS4 for one of those occasions. We live in Australia, however we have relatives still residing in the UK.
I've bought things from Amazon.co.uk for great prices before, things like the Logitech G933's for just over $100AUD new! So I know sometimes you can get a good deal by buying from Amazon.co.uk. Question is, if I saw a good deal for the PS4 will everything work hunky dory on this side of the globe? For instance, even if the Amazon.co.uk deal was not shipping to oz, that's ok I could get it delivered to rellies and then they forwarded it onto me.
I realise travel adapters are needed, and we don't own a single game for it yet (tbh it's most likely going to end up being a Rocket League and Minecraft only console! But other than that, once we create a new account for him is there going to be an issue?
Oh… and we own a ps3, may have a few titles for that, can we redownload them and get them to work on the PS4? I also bought GT5 ages ago for the PS3 (physical disc, and oh Wipeout HD) and have the wheel and pedals, but I'm imagining they no longer work with the PS4? (Logitech Driving Force GT I believe…)

Yeh, basically looking for the cheapest PS4 deal, and am happy to consider out of oz for options, that is if it all works hunky dory. Even right now the PS4 is 199quid on amazon, slightly cheaper than here, but perhaps about the same overall once I take shipping into account, basically I wouldn't consider this option unless a good deal hits my radar.

Cheers,

Dunker

  • uses infinity and 240v, region codes are the same so it will work, just buy another infinity cable

    • Thanks for the swift reply, what's 'infinity' in this case? Ta once again.

'Infinity' refers to the power cable that plugs to the back of the PS4, the one shaped like an infinity symbol or the number 8 on its side.
If you're buying from the UK, the power cable that comes included will be the UK 3-pin type (like this http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTAwMFgxMDAw/z/XTUAAOSwcB5ZL0xg/$_35.JPG?set_id=880000500F), so you'll need to buy a replacement power cable that you can plug to the wall outlet.

Alternatively you can use an adapter, but it's preferable to replace the infinity cable.

https://i.imgur.com/at07juv.jpg these things, found on most devices, some call em figure 8 plugs, but its more like an infinity symbol

      • It's a "FIGURE 8 IEC- C7" mains power cable. If you walk into a shop and ask for an infinity cable they will have no idea what you are talking about. Those that do recognise "infinity" and "electrical cable" are likely to associate it with the recall of defective power cables provided by a company of that name (now in liquidation). https://www.accc.gov.au/update/infinity-cable-recall-act-now…

  • Using the word 'Will' at the beginning of the title would greatly provide clarity on what the thread is about.

  • Ah, gotcha… ta.

So when creating accounts and what not, there isn't going to be a hitch, like the Playstore isn't going to see that its a UK ps4 and be awkward or anything?

Yeah, that won't be a problem. I believe PSN store region is determined by the address you enter when creating a new account. My PS4 was bought in Singapore, and I have a US account, AU account and SG account on it.

  • Nice, what about old ps3 titles, both downloads and discs, is it backward compatible? I think the GT wheel is not gonna work for any driving titles… right?

    • +1

ps4 is not backwards compatible with ps3 games, so no luck there even with AU PS4s. But all PS4 game discs are region-free, so it doesn't matter.

Not sure about your wheel. Some accessories have been able to work on PS4s even if not officially supported, but others don't. You'll just have to check your model number.
