Which Mobile Company Has Capped Speed When Data Exhausted?

Hi all. I just noticed belong mobile (Telstra 3g/4g network) has pretty competitive plans - $30/month for 5gb, unlimited calls/texts. Data roll over and data gifting to other belong customers.

The biggest thing for me is just getting shaped at 64kbps when data runs out or you can purchase more data at $10 for 2gb!

Most other companies charge $10 per 1gb otherwise your data service is cut.

Is there any other company that shapes your data speed when you've used all your data?

So when you run out of data you want to keep using data for free?

    • Theoretically you should be able to use a phone call to transmit 56kb of data, so if your plan includes unlimited calls its not so outlandish

      • 56k is dial up modem speed?

    • vivid is wireless, not true mobile service

  • wow awesome find, that could be useful for peace of mind.

What happens if I exceed my data allowance?

You can purchase additional data if your allowance is low or has run
out. We do not apply data top-ups automatically.
If you have no data remaining, your service will be slowed to a
maximum of 64kbps for the rest of that monthly payment cycle, but
we won’t charge you any extra. Your data at the slower speed will
    be unlimited.

    • Wow that is great for peace of mind and huge reduction of chance of bill sick which I have encountered and experienced in the past.

That's a really good deal. And you get 2GB for $10 not 1 like telstra and optus!

So OP… Whats wrong with the belong plans then?

Nothing. Just wondering if any other telco does shaping

  • 10 dollars for extra 1gb is better then paying per mb like they use to.

    • and $10 for 2GB is better than $10 for 1GB too ;)

        Indeed it is.

Then again if you go over the limit all the time then you might as well splash out and get the extra gigs

        • Agreed….
