Solar Panel for a Backpack

G"day All
Please iam planning a bicycle tour from Ethiopia to Egypt via Sudan , need to get a few solar panels for backpacks, which i can donate to schools on the way.
The Solar backpacks are very expensive ,so i can use all backpacks and stitch the panels on them.
Thanks heaps for your great input in advance
Cheers :-)

  • Yeah, I'd be investing in a bullet proof vest before I got a solar panel. Egypt and Sudan, are you completely nuts?

    • I dont need that
i can die here in my bed
worked in a war zone for 5 years and didn't wear my vest!!!

      • "I don't need that"

        Famous last words?

Seriously man, Egypt is incredibly unsafe, just research the sheer number of terror attacks in the last decade, and remember that ISIS is active on the Sinai Peninsula. And Sudan? Are you joking?

          Egypt gets 10m tourists a year: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Egypt#Impact_of_ter…

Terrorism is a threat, but hardly a meaningful one.

Sudan doesn't have quite the draw for international tourists, but still hosts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year:

@mskeggs: Mo terrorism is a threat in Egypt, specifically to tourists. Many heinous acts have been targeted towards tourists in Egypt over the last 20 years. It is a no go zone.

        • @Burnertoasty:
I don't disagree that there have been terrorist attacks targeting tourists, but the incidence of harm has been very small as a factor of the number of tourists that visit.
There are almost no countries that are unaffected by terrorism, and while in Egypt tourists have been disproportionately targeted, the odds of being affected are still a million to one.

        • @mskeggs: Dude, they blew up a hotel at Sharm El Sheik. You can’t travel to Abu Simbel without an armed escort, down the highway in the middle of he day (itself the site of a terrorist attach where tourists were gunned down). Their airports have such laces security that someone was able to put a bomb on a Europe bound plane recently. It is too dangerous a place to travel to.

I'm not sure why attaching to a back pack is a benefit to the people you are visiting? If they are charging a phone or whatever, wouldn't they just put the solar panel out where they are?
Anyway, I suggest something like this:
    https://goo.gl/BYZ7mx

It has a USB port, making it compatible with lots of devices, and it outputs 1A, enough power to charge a device in a reasonable time.
I found you can get useful results searching for USB solar 5w.

    • Thank you for your input
sorry the link was in Russian!!!!(Sorry the link is ok now,Thanks)
I "ll donate the backpack to students and they can share it ,everyday at a different house.
      Thanks

Good luck man I seriously wish you all the best.. just try and safe and keep your eyes and ears always open we really don't want to have to lose another human being.

The world is not that safe atm in certain parts of the world atm.. just look at America recently so much crazy mental hate and death and destruction going on it hurts my soul to hear about it.

If you really don't have to I would avoid theThe dangerous parts of the middle east and south Africa as well atm, they would not be on my ideal list of travel choices atm haha lol unless I was a hired and very well paid mercenary maybe haha lol but that's my stupid dumb brainwashed cod brain talking now haha lol I am clueless as to how I would even survive in a war zone.

    • Here there mate
