Computer Chair - Cheaper version of Aeron?

Hell0. I saw a Herman Miller Aeron chair today that was being sold by a private seller… BUT it is not the Aeron with the wheels but more of a cantilever chair… actually its this http://www.sitbackandrelax.com.au/aeron-side-chair-by-herman… but with the addition of the lumbar support.

I sat on it but the only negative was that it could not recline but do you think it would make a OK computer chair for about $350 or do you think its worth spending a few hundred more on the wheel/reclining version classic chair but 2nd hand to keep the price down?

You HAVE to get something adjustable for computer desk which you'll be sitting at for a long time. Side chairs are just meant to be used for a desk for a short meeting or something where height and position don't matter too much.

At a computer desk you need height, backrest, base, arm, all adjustable so they can be comfortable to type, move the mouse, look at the screen etc. E.g., if your chair is too low you will be looking up at the monitor which strains the eyes and neck.

      Adjustable is a must.

Get a second hand Aeron in good condition. I've got one, worth every cent. After a few crappy $200 office chairs over the years, this is honestly one that I have no regrets about.

if you can't an aeron get a steelcase leap or haworth zody/lively. both very good chairs and a cheaper than hm, especially 2nd hand

I compared all the alternatives and the Aeron is a mile ahead for me. Having said that I’m a little disappointed with mine, they’re made in China now and are not as solid as the original US units.

i bought a haworth lively for $40 and i like it more than the aeron. the back is higher too. i reckon tho the mirra 2 would be better

We all like different things. The Mirra is good, I have one of those too, you can get them relatively cheap second hand. Priced new they are not a heap cheaper anymore, I would pay the extra for the Aeron.

I would suggest an Ergohuman, specifically the V1 with headrest. Solid build and made to last.

Is it absolutely worth it spending additional money on a good chair. You'll find those you get from Ikea or Officeworks will start to break down over the years.

  • Thanks for your options. I will avoid this one and get somethign adjustable :) Everyone got a +1 for yer help :)
