Groove Music is excited to announce that, beginning today, we’re partnering with Spotify to bring the world’s largest music streaming service to you, our valued Groove Music Pass customer. We know that access to the best music streaming service, the largest catalogue of music and a variety of subscriptions are at the top of your list. When the new update to the Groove app becomes available in mid-October, you’ll be able to move your personal playlists and music collection from Groove directly into Spotify*.

After 31 December 2017, Groove Music Pass streaming service will be discontinued**. You can keep your music intact by transferring your personal playlists and tracks to Spotify. Plus, you may be eligible for a 60-day free trial of Spotify Premium. We’ll continue to update the Groove Music app on all Windows devices so you can play the music you’ve purchased or uploaded to your PC or OneDrive. But the app will no longer stream Groove Music Pass content.
Transition your music in just a few clicks:

  1. Launch the latest Groove app. From your Windows 10 PC or Xbox One, download the latest Groove app update from the Windows Store, open it, and sign in. Once you’re signed in to your account, you’ll see a pop-up window from Spotify with instructions on how to sign in or create a Spotify account.

  2. Sign in to Spotify.
    a. If you already have a Spotify account, you’ll see a prompt to enter your username and password.
    b. If you’re new to Spotify, you’ll be asked a few basic questions to create an account.

  3. We move your music. After signing into your Spotify account, we’ll move your Groove Music Pass collection and playlists from Groove Music to Spotify.

  4. Play music in Spotify. Moving your music to your Spotify account will take a few minutes. Then you’ll be able to enjoy your Groove library in the Spotify app!

But my membership is paid up to may 2022

Looks like reddit killed this service.

      "Paid"

    • Hopefully they'll migrate you over to Spotify until 2022

Finally got my way around groove music and they decide to shutter it. Ohh well, its not like I paid for it.

Unfortunately, it also means I loose streaming in forza horizon 3.

Microsoft gives up on Groove Music, switches customers to Spotify

Microsoft still isn't having much luck competing in the digital music realm. The software behemoth has announced that it's axing its Groove Music services (streaming, purchases and re-downloads) after December 31st, 2017. And unlike in the past, there isn't another Microsoft-branded service waiting in the wings. Instead, the company is transitioning everyone over to Spotify. The Groove Music app will offer to migrate your collection and playlists through an update, starting with a preview version this week and more broadly on October 9th.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

  • Looks like Spotify and Google Play Music is winning this music streaming space.

To be fair it was a rubbish service. It's given me constant drop outs and a lot of its catalogue is misorganised or missing certain songs or albums. I can't believe I paid $0 for access to May 2020.

  • I pre-paid for an annual Groove Music Pass. What are my options? Your recurring annual Groove Music Pass will continue through December 31, 2017. If your Pass subscription extends beyond December 31, 2017, then by February 1, 2018, Microsoft will give you a prorated refund from December 31, 2017 onwards (if we are able to issue a refund to your credit card/payment instrument on file). If we are unable to refund your payment instrument on file, Microsoft will provide 120% of that prorated amount in a Microsoft gift card in your Microsoft account to spend at the Microsoft Store.

Since I am too "pre-paid" till 2020, this will be costly for Microsoft?

Given how we obtained the codes, and given they were free, I don't think Microsoft should be expected to refund us for what was a free product or trial of their service.

I must be the only person here who loved the service. I've never used spotify premium though.

First Pandora, now Groove. Why do my favourite music services keep leaving me, at least you can still listen to Pandora with VPN.
