Wanting to Buy Compression Tights

I'm looking to buy a pair of full length compression tights for training.

I'm currently looking at skins and 2XU and was wondering what OzBargain's thoughts on compressions are? Have you guys bought them and then regretted? Or were they a great addition to your 'activewear'?

Yes regret bought one under Armour, but happy with 2xu. But please don't pay full price they are ripped off prices.

i agree! the prices are ridiculous but luckily theiconic and 2xu website both have regular sales so i won't need to pay RRP (not that i would anyway). I'm leaning towards 2xu as well

  • I have mainly skins but also a couple of Nike and uniqlo ones. The skins seem to be the best quality/most durable.

Used them mainly to prevent chafing of the inner thighs whilst exercising/playing sport also used to wear them under pants when heading out on the town in summer to help "wick" the ball sweat away…

I don't think I noticed any benefit in terms of shortening recovery time or whatever some of them claim.

I don't regularly exercise/play sport or go out these days, so have a bunch I rarely use now :(

Would also recommend to only buy them when on sale at least 50% off. You could try the no name ones from kmart (or similar) to start with if you don't want to spend too much as a trial, but I don't know if the technology is as sophisticated as the brand named ones (if there really is any in them anyway).

aldi sometime have them on clearance

  • The recovery socks are good. Wear while you sleep after running.

  • I swear by the bsc compression wear.

They are a little more exp though. And more heavy on the compression aspect and less "activewear/athleisure".

  • Have been using Skins for the last 4 years. They are of excellent quality .No chafing whatsoever. There is a sale going on in Jim Kidds right now.

  • I had Skins, you're not supposed to machine wash these things but i do anyway. Skins lasted about 6 months before holes appeared.
Have since switched to 2XU and they are way more durable, have had them for a few years now and still going strong.

  • Never had a pair of 2XU's rip on me, got my last pair from their Click Frenzy sale earlier this year for $70 down from $180. Runner up would be Skins. The performance/recovery benefits aren't enormous, might even be the placebo effect. Nonetheless, they feel awesome to have on while training or for recovery.

I only run when streaking so can't provide any opinions on compression tights sorry

  • 2XU's seem to be the more durable compression tights compared to Skins, although the Skins A200 range aren't too bad.
I'd prefer the 2XU though, remember when machine washing, just put it in a laundry bag before chucking it in. It'll last longer

  • 2XU are OK but the logos all came off mine and looked cheap.

  • From a female perspective- most of the women I see wearing 2xu tights at the gym are exposing their underwear to everyone when they bend slightly… if you plan on wearing them outside, do a squat test in the change rooms first!

I've bought both previously and found that the 2xu washed better but didn't stay up as well. I was always pulling them back up during a workout. The skins were great quality and had a wider waist band but the stitching went 'poggy' after a while.

  • hey guys thanks for all your replies! i think im gonna go for 2XU for my first pair. I can see that amazon sell them for cheaper and was wondering if anyone was familiar with their sizing? i used their size chart and they recommended that i purchase an 'XLT' but amazon only have regular sizes without the "T". Is there a big difference between XL and XLT? thanks

    • What did you end up getting? I'm also in the market for a new pair.

      • my phone suddenly bricked out of no where so i didn't get the chance to buy! I'm waiting for my size (XLT) to restock in recovery (and in a nice colourway) on the 2XU website with their 30% sale. But ASOS and Theiconic have select compressions on sale!

I've worn a range of compression tights, including 2XU, Skins, BSC and the 'Crane' brand sold at Aldi, and played basketball and football in them for a number of years.

I strongly recommend waiting for the Aldi brand skins to come on sale. They are inexpensive ($20 compared to $80 for other brands), durable, and just as (in)effective. I would be particularly reluctant to shell out $100+ for a pair when there is little evidence showing any tangible benefit of wearing compression gear - https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jun/19/under-p….

    • do you mind if i ask why you personally wear them? You talk about compressions being ineffective but have worn them for many years? do they provide any support for you as an individual?

      • This is a link to one of the few independent scientific studies on the effects of compression clothing.

In summary-it helps a bit with recovery.

  • Compression pants are well worth it. Reduces your risk of any injury and keeps your manhood in check (assuming you're a guy). I got some Nike compression bottoms (both short and long) and wear them when I play soccer. Love them. Can't see myself going back to boxer briefs when playing sports.

    • yep! i ended up buying short and long compression tights as well and love them. Although i did buy a cheaper quality knockoff off ebay and it does the trick just as fine (but feels a bit weird)
