Installing Alarm System at Home - DIY

Can we install alarm system at home on our own?

I have heard there are laws that electricals needs to be done by a licensed sparky, if not insurance wont cover it.

Are there any laws as such for installing security alarm?

    buy battery one

  • There are definitely laws where you need a sparky to run wiring. If you haven't done anything similar before I'd suggest not doing it.

  • Yeah. Any fixed wiring is supposed to be done by someone with at least a telecommunications certificate. Its mostly a hangover from earlier times..they didn't want stuff connected to the phone line that could destroy equipment upstream

  • Thanks. Alarm system I bought is all wireless and runs on battery. No need of sparky for this

    • you need sparky(certification) only if there are wires/cables involve especially when they are live wires.

Wireless alarm system is DIY most of the time so go for it.

    • If you don't mind me asking, which wireless system did you purchase? And how is it working? I am thinking to install one and the installer is asking close to 3$$$ for 6 CCTV and Hills alarm system

You don't need an electrician. Alarm systems can be installed by a registered cabler. They also need a security license if you're paying them.
