Looking for Quiet, Private Space to Chat with a Friend, 7pm Tonight Inner SE MELB

Hi guys,

I have a friend who wants to talk with me. I don't know the exact topic, but I'll be counselling him (mate to mate) about a private personal issue he has. He said the local pub is not private enough and both of our homes are unsuitable.

Can anyone suggest a private place to chat after hours in Inner Melbourne at around 7pm tonight?

I was thinking of a library, a (large) hotel lobby (where one could have some privacy) or some other kind of meeting room - I just don't know where specifically.

It can be Hawthorn, Richmond, Prahran, CBD ish area or thereabouts.

Thank you!

I had thought of a park but it might get cold after 1-2 hours.

    • Tonight its going to be warm until like 9pm, so you picked a good day for it. I'd find a restaurant that serves alcohol, and has a semi private booth setup

      mate to mate

Weather is nothing to worry about - sounds like there'll be a few man-hugs tonight!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm surprised I never heard about this (though I see it was suggested on OzBargain a few years ago).

This is the perfect front for an illegitimate business on a budget.

All those young guys driving AMG's made their bucks with Amway, you know?

Wow, I never knew they had this service.

Officeworks do think of everything, from sending parcels, photo printing, 3d printing and meeting rooms.

      • wow. book and play pokemons snap and read comic book free elestricity

Can you live in the room?

Each Meeting Room comes with the following:

        A large whiteboard
Tables and seating to fit 6 people comfortably
        Free Wi-Fi access
        Free tea and coffee

Sounds like it's better than home.

    • Thanks for the edufiying comment.

      In store events
Visit our store between 12pm and 2pm on Saturday or Sunday for face painting and balloon art.

Looks like I´ll be attending the meeting in style

      • +1 just because I don't want to piss off Alf…

  • Go for a walk. Studley Park will suit you.

    • And you will be waiting to mug him!

  • Rocket park (aka Central Garden), Or pretty garden patch near Hawthorn Town Hall…

This is what cars are perfect for. Unless you're under digital surveillance. In spy movies they always seem to be yelling at each other next to a water feature…

Looking for a private space but you are asking on the internet, how do you know we all won't come and try to listen in on your conversation?

Not sure why the downvote - I thought your joke was pretty funny!

I generally do these kinds of talks in the car or just by sitting on the footpath.
Anywhere where there's no other ears really - never cared whether it was a nice place or not.

Nearby park/outdoor basketball court (bring a basketball)? You could try a playground, but two grown men hogging some swings/see-saw might raise some eyebrows…

    Or maybe a pool/billiard hall?

I would think a library would be too quiet? No talking usually and definitely no crying…if that's what could end up happening…

I was thinking of a library

If you go down this route, watch out for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHhy2Gk_xik

  • Random church garden. Use your brain not mine

  • Any garden, or park is fine. Go for a walk in your/his street.

I'm surprised this is even worth asking - Go for a walk to any park/field/street.

    • Sure… so we chatted for over 2 hours… let's walk for 10km in circles or sit in a park in the dark?

      • +1

Yeah, probably not ideal in hindisight. Sorry.

You could try one of those booths at the back of a Club X store, you know the ones with little holes halfway down the wall?

be careful . it seems like a trap to get poked in the eye when peeping

    Your bedroom :)

Perhaps Skype or use the phone. You both sound socially awkward

    • The Club X turned out to be fine

Consider the lobby / bar of the Amora Hotel in Bridge road.

Would also need a DeLorean now, as the meeting was last night.

    • Good suggestion, thanks. This is the type of thing I was after, a lobby/bar of a hotel with privacy. Hopefully helpful for someone else one day.

    Officeworks was alright!
