How to book for Melb stay in Christmas peak period for 2 adults and 2 children

Hi,

I've been asked to help relos book a decent hotel in Melbourne CBD for 4 days during the Christmas break. Firstly, have I left it a little too late or is this the time when hotel promotions are starting to come out? Anyway, I've never had to book for children before and am realising that having the fourth person as a child is quite hard to grab a deal, even though that child is only 3 years old. Really, the child can sleep with his parents while the teenager can have a rollaway bed/sofa bed or something. Will hotels count a 3 year old as a person? Sometimes, I read that it is free for child sharing with parents, so do I still inlcude this detail in the booking. As I'm doing this for someone else, I want to get it right and not having any dramas when they get there.

I am looking at the Accor deals but haven't signed up to the clubs that Ozbargain mention because I'll need relo's details. Do you think I will get the 50% off like those who are a member now? Has anyone booked the deal with Accor and are in similar situation, peak season with 2 children, plus need parking? Which is the best hotel that is comfortable and affordable for you? Have you ever tried booking for 3 persons but then have a toddler as an extra forth person and not have any problems with the hotel reception? Are there any other hotels/website that I should be looking at? Will the deals get better coming closer to Christmas?

Anyway, thanks for all your advice.

Edit: Wow, thanks everyone for the advice. It sure beats hours of searching on the net just to get a feel of what I want. Now I can narrow my search down. One more question, will there be more deals closer to Christmas or is it best to book asap?

  • I've never tried booking for a child - you could try selecting "family" rooms - but I always have a look at hotelscombined.com.au It will compare the same hotel across different booking sites and let you know which one is cheapest. If you put in 4 people and one room you will get some results with family rooms, but you will have to sift through them.
lastminute.com.au will also let you put in how many adults and how many children.
    hope that helps.

Adding - you could also try apartments which are sometimes booked through lastminute sites
And don't forget to have a quick look at tripadvisor for reviews if they expect it to be nice :)

  • hey whatever,

Can i tell me when do you need a hotel room and your budget? I could try to help you locate a room for 2 adults and 2 children. Any special request..

  • When we've booked through the Accor website in the past you just put down the number of adults and number of Children (under 15) and make sure you select a room that can accommodate 2 adults & 2 kids.

The places we've stayed have had a queen size for me and the mrs and a fold down queen size sofa bed which is good for the kids.

The kids dodn't pay for brekky either as long as they are eating with a paying adult. Brekky can be booked at the same time as the online room booking.

As far as I know, there is no per person surcharge or anything…. just the room and adult breakfasts.

But saying that, the booking page may come up different for certain hotels. You could just go through the booking process though and see what comes up :)
