Refunding a Purchase Made during eBay Sale/Promotion, Get Full Value Back?

Hi everyone,

I decided to pick up the Dell gaming desktop during the 20% off eBay sale which costed $1.2k reduced from $1.5k. I just got an email saying that it will take some extra time to fulfil the order and that I would have to wait an extra 10 days. They said I'm free to wait and apologised or offered a refund.

I originally chose to purchase the desktop as it was sold at around cost price. If I choose to refund, will I get $1.5k back or will I get $1.2k? Looking at the order details, it says the paid price was $1.5k which is why I think a refund might be $1.5k. Has anyone else had experience refunding sale items from these kinds of promotions in the past?

Cheers

If they process the refund through ebay or paypal, you will get $1.2k, from my experience anyway.

Cool. Wanted to keep the order but if I could have gotten a bit of extra cash, I would have liked to upgrade it a bit.

      • In your case, rather refund, it's better to wait or upgrade to whichever you want as from seller point of view you pay $1500. If refund via PayPal it would be $1200.

        • I did need a computer soon and I thought it would be arriving on Tuesday. I've just taken a look at Coffee CPUs and some of them are already sold out! I don't think I'm really that keen on waiting for a restock so I'll just wait the 10 extra days.

        • @BrewerHaHa: Try to get some form of compensation for the wait, like an m2 Disk, or usb3 dongle or Modem/router/AP. They normally prefer to keep buyers happy with some small items

      • If you contact the store they might give you store credit, which would work better for you if you were going to upgrade with the same store

You are refunded $1.5k, with $300 then deducted to pay back Ebay. Because the retailer receives the $1.5k before fees.

    • Thanks plmko. Keeping it but wish I knew about intel Coffee coming out then maybe I would have been more patient. Oh well, still happy

  • Myer has closed this loophole if you return in store. they have ipads to process ebay/online purchases.

I returned my ipad at the counter and re bought using their loyalty card a few months ago, maybe depends who you approach.

      • they only recently brought the ipads to every stores.

  • Yea, like others have said. If you are refunded via ebay/paypal, you will get refunded what you originally paid for it, ie. $1.2k. If you get store credit or refunded via any other means, you will be refunded the order price, which is $1.5k.

Super Cheap hasn't closed the loophole.

Did you stop for two seconds to think about it before you posted this? You thought that somehow you could make $300 and that no one would notice or it wouldn't be tracked? How long would a business stay in business if this loophole actually worked

    • I did, but thought I would ask anyway. It can't hurt to ask.
2jzzzz has said that SCA still hasn't closed their loophole.

      • What's the SCA loophole?

I got all upset when I got a refund for something bought on ebay. There was a 15% ebay tax on it, on my refund. Very upset.
Fact was that I didn't remember I bought the item during a 15% special. Oh My, glad I was polite on the phone, and the person on the other side didn't see my face when I realized my mistake.

  • Thanks for your replies guys. Have a good Friday!
