Canon 550D (either body only or with 18/135mm lens kit)

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of trying to find a cheap Canon 550D body or 18/135mmm kit. Have searched everywhere and basically have a couple of choices. Trying to decide if I can find one cheap enough locally with an Aust Warranty or buy a grey import from the likes of DD Electronics, Citiwideonline or DWI at a heavy discount (with obvious warranty risk issues). Best JB can do for body only is $1100 (compared to grey of about $800 shipped) and 135mmm lens kit $1580 JB / $1100 grey (550D badge, not KISS).

Anyone got any ideas or experiences with some of these online retailers from overseas. Trying to decide the best one as prices are pretty much the same. Whirlpool have varying opinions on them all, so I'm really undecided and would prefer to pay a little more (not too much!) for a local bargain.

Any info would be most appreciated.

Cheers

  • for your information, there is a good chance that you will need warranty work on the entry lvl canon bodies for focus adjustment.

    • 550D is mid-range consumer.

  • I don't know much about cameras but I think the Canon 1000D was like under $500 locally.

    • Oh, nvm.. Sale ended. ><"

  • I recently bought a Kiss X4 (kit) from DD Electronics in Singapore with an extra F1.8 lens and it was a very good experience. Delivered by DHL. Although grey, they offer an Australian warranty. I recommend the F1.8 lens as being well worthwhile for artistic or low light shots.

  • You might wanna check out www.shoppingsquare.com.au today, as they have a crazy sale on cameras & accessories! I'd get one myself , but i'm broke spending it on computer hardware already! :(

  • I know it is a bit late but i managed to pick up a Canon 550D dual lens kit for $1350 from JB Hifi the other week when they had the friends/family sale. It was $1588 on catalog special and they took the 15% off that price. Was a bit of a delay when buying as it was below their cost price (suposedly).
