How Do You Increase Storage on The Xbox One s 500GB (Change Internal or Just Add External)

So I see lots of good $250 deals for an Xbox One S 500 gb but none really for the 2tb option. 22tb option goes for like $400-500 which is almost double the cost for just an extra 1.5tb

So I am wondering what have some of you Xbox One S 500 gb owners done to increase your internal storage.

Have you opened it up and replaced the existing hard drive with a new hard drive or SSD or did you just buy some external hard drives and plugged them in for increased portability and optional storage maybe for other consoles?

Also those that have put in SSD's did you see a major major improvement and did it affect gameplay, I would assume multiplayer would be good to have those extra quick and fast loading times and reduced environment lag?

But with costs of SSD's to HDD's being almost close to a 15:1 ratio on a good day it is sometimes hard to justify the much more increased cost of a SSD over a HDD.

So tell me Ozbargainer's what did you do or are planning to do if you have an Xbox One S console to play around with.

Also interested to hear from the other side of the fence if we have any PS4 or PS4 Pro users here as well.

I have a 2tb hdd as an external. I've heard somewhere that the external is faster than the internal. I have all my games on the external and if you go to a mates you can take your games with you.

  • PS4 user here. not PS4 Pro. Got myself a Seagate 2TB HDD and connected it via USB port, which is USB 3.0. No problems and certainly no change in performance. Now i have 500gb internal and 2tb external. So much space, downloaded all the ps plus titles and still got enough.

I was jealous of Xbox having such easy to add storage feature but Sony finally added that support in 2016/17

    Add external :)

  • Just make sure you get a USB 3.0 drive, then add external. It's actually faster than internal for some reason.

    • Huh cheers thanks TIL. So I guess opting for a 2tb deal on the Xbox One S is a bad idea.
