Shortcuts to Talk to a Human When Calling a Company

Some companies are horrendous for putting in an automated system which makes it almost impossible to talk to a person. I've found a few shortcuts to talk to a human at certain companies:

Opal 13 67 25

Press 9, 7 then 3

amaysim 1300 808 300

Press 1, 1, 4, then 6

Anyone else know other shortcuts?

Regardless of company, I just mash the # and * buttons on the phone repeatedly and this always shortcuts to something like 'I'm sorry, I didn't understand that, putting you through to an operator"

"The fingers you used to dial are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now."

I do this but Optus doesn't like it, they hang up.

    • I did that with amaysim today. Got disconnected immediately :(

The Daily Telegraph's telephone cheat sheet (might need an update).

Call number, press nothing generally tends to work.

If they have a "call from outside of Australia" number then I usually call that.

I am amazed that every time I try to use Telstra’s IVR I am still directed to the wrong department or they do not get information keyed in. Deadset useless. Can understand why these lists exist.

  • I normally just bash 0 over and over and get through to people
