Purchasing an iPhone 8 through Vodafone with Plan

Hey OzB's

Simple question, would it be better to purchase the iphone 8 using the coles mastercard to take advantage of the 24 month merchandise protection or to do so with the AMEX essential card for their benefits and ?greater points reward. I know that purchasing it through vodafone is a monthly repayment system and I have called amex and the benefits such as buyer insurance, etc apart from the smart phone screen insurance don't become validated until you complete the whole purchase price of the phone using the AMEX card. Not sure if that would be a similar case with Coles mastercard.

Cheers
Andy

  • You could buy it thru the qantas mall and get points that way as well. https://onlinemall.qantaspoints.com/allstores/81336/
Kogan and Apple store as well as eBay are all in qantas mall
I think from memory you can get velocity points in Apple store online as well.

    • doesn't give me the option of interest free monthly repayments which probably allows me to use the 1K better in the interim for other investments/purchases

      • I think Kogan offers interest free for 12 months?
And if you prepaid the 365 day 16g plan you would save $200 vs buying off Vodafone.
I think? Feel free to correct me ozbargain narks

        • Had a look on the kogan site previously and it's like 80 or so dollars less than vodafone and I was planning on getting the 24 or 36 month repayment option so probably not too much difference. Also can pick up the phone in store as opposed to waiting for delivery from kogan shipping out earliest on 25 oct as I need it as a gift by the 22.

  • I believe Vodafone offer 24 months warranty on handsets purchased through them on plans.

  • +4

Wait, Apple don't offer a 2yr warranty on flagships? Wtf?

Pretty sure it's been mentioned before that they honour the 2yr warranty in Australia because of ACL. No need for the purchase protection crap

    • Yep. This.

  • Make sure you are purchasing and not just renting with an upgrade option. Optus has two kinds of plans now.

    • Purchasing but with monthly installments

  • +1

You get a 2 year warranty on iPhones in Australia anyway. Buy using your Amex
