What's Your Commute Time to Work?

Hello Community,

My commute to work is around 1hr 10mins by public transport (Bus and Train), which I think is kind of okish.

My commute would be 55mins if I go by car, park at a station and catch train to work.

Just wanted to find out how much you all spend in commute to work.

  • Perth, 20 mins walk

  • driving, depending on traffic (time I leave the house) from Dandenong to Bentleigh (VIC) - 22 km in 30-45 minutes each way (via Dandenong Baypass)… By transport will take at least 1h - 1h 10 min, as I need to walk (15-20 minutes) to the station / use a bus and change a lane on the train…
Not the best / shortest time to spend, but still is okay, was leaving previously in 20 minutes walking distance from the office, but I prefer to leave a bit further in the own house then renting in close proximity…

  • My commute by public transport is roughly 80 minutes. It would take between 45 minutes and 90 minutes to drive in, depending on the traffic, and then I'd have to worry about parking - and as I learned a while back, driving in peak-hour traffic every morning is quite stressful, given that almost every car accident I've been involved in has been someone else hitting me during peak-hour. So arriving at work after a non-stressful train ride and walk is much preferable.

  • Melbourne SE Suburbs here. Currently a 10 min walk, 2 min drive (if I'm feeling lazy).

However am changing jobs next week to pursue a career in an industry I'm passionate about. Catch is it's on the other side of town, so the commute is now going to be >70 mins. Let's hope it's worth it…(I do get a car though).

  • 1 hour door to door. Anything more than 1.5 hours would get to me.

  • How easy is it to organise a 4 day working week with the employer? Any tips or ways of negotiation to get around with this?

    • But you will only get paid for 4 days a week.

  • 10 minute drive max, NT :)

  • 6 minutes by Ferry

  • Currently, about 1 minute walk (or a 15-30 second drive) for one job, and a 20ish minute drive to the other… I'll be moving shortly and that will put me at about a 10ish minute drive to each job.

I bought a $1,200 rug from ebay. It was the wrong design and they wouldn't accept a refund. However I have since discovered that it does fly, slashing my commute time by 50 mins each way.

The German student who has made trains her home

28 minutes on Friday. Almost every Friday, it's like everyone takes the day off, but leaving to go home at 5:30ish, the entire state of Victoria is leaving.

  • 2 hours 20 minutes each way via public transport. While I do want to move closer to work, the property market just keeps driving prices up pretty much enforcing me to stay where I am.

6 Minutes - 4km Rural Victoria. No idea how you city guys do the 1hr + commute. I'd never get anything done after work!

  • To Uni not work, but around 2hrs one way - if I catch an express I can get it down to 1.5 hrs
Study until I get bored/tired and then from there watch a movie or tv show. Listen to music on the connecting train that takes about 10 mins.

    Never looked back!

  • 15 min drive.

  • 9 minutes with traffic, 6 without. Canberra

Less than a minute the moment I step into the train carriage. Having said that my rent is pretty expensive but I live alone and does not own that much stuff. Not a morning person so I decided to rent near where I work.

  • It takes me no time at al, I am unemployed.

Just curious to know why would you be interested in how long it takes for someone to get to work.

I don't seem to have these kind of thoughts.

    • Because you're unemployed. I have random thoughts all the time because work is boring.

  • Five to ten minutes, depending on how unlucky I am with the lights. Melbourne CBD to Southbank on a bike.

  • 2 minutes, walking.

      reviving a post 5 years ago :/

      • I'm curious to see if there is any changes within the 5 years!

  • Ten minutes on my electric scooter (legal where I live).

Fifteen minutes if I catch a tram including a short walk at each end.

I used to drive ~50mins each way at my old job and you just get used to it. Luckily I started in the early hours of the morning so there was no traffice on the way to work and hardly any coming home. After I quit I had to go somewhere right near my old place of work and I wasn't even half way there before I wondered to myself how I did this five days a week for years. So much dead time plus the cost of fuel and at the time I was earning about 50% less per week.

  • 35 mins from Parramatta to Sydney CBD office.
