Looking for a Bargain for Glasses/Spectacles

I need to get new glasses, and took a look at vision direct/clearly contacts but they dont have seem to have any good deals on. Specifically looking for semi-rimless with spring hinges and nose pads. Need to get 1.67 index lenses so my final budget is around $200 or so.

Can anyone suggest any other sites where I can claim from my health fund (GMHBA)?

Get your full prescription from you optometrist and use zenni.com. The entire optometry industry in Australia is a complete rip-off. Haven't paid more than $70 for a pair of glasses for years.

Please read…to claim from a health fund the seller has to be located in Australia with a valid ABN. Zenni does not qualify.

  • $200 total or gap payment?

    • $200 total. Clearly Contacts can do glasses for around that price, but they have no semi-rimless frames that i want at the moment.

  • Maybe look at one of the new cheap places that have popped up around the place? I have good quality glasses from Bailey Nelson, Oscar Wylee do something similar.

If you look at those sites they only do thick fashion frames, none of them carry semi-rimless at all.

Except for these, these, these, these, or any of these or these.

        • Way too expensive. $175 for frame + 1.5 index lenses.

As mentioned in the OP, has to around the $200 mark for 1.67 index lenses.

Visiondirect.com.au are pretty good, glasses start at $50
And they work with your fund,
I’ve used them a couple of times, it was pretty easy to deal with them.

I already listed vision direct in the OP, please read.

Did you check with your health insurance if they cover the thinning? I'm with Bupa, and they cover $0 for thinning. And I need 1.74 index lenses :( So far I found vision direct is the cheapest for my lenses. Though zenni from memory is pretty close in terms of the amount of money I need to pay extra. Please let me know if you find other option!

    • Most health insurance just covers the entire cost and they dont break it down to thin lenses, etc.

      • BUPA breaks it down. If yours doesn't then good. But who knows, even the optometrist told me, only Medibank, AHM and 1 other one that I can't recall, cover thinning.

  • OWNDAYS offers 1.60/1.67/1.74 index lenses and has semi-rimless frames.

    • Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately their semi-rimless + 1.67 index lenses are about $250 which is outside my price range.
