  • Bought a pair of the smaller ones about 2 years ago; unfortunately, I found them to have sub-par performance compared to Kyocera ceramic knives. In terms of sharpness/ease of gliding through the cuts - 55% compared to the 95% of Kyocera. Certainly hope Aldi('s manufacturers) have improved their honing technique since then.

Also, unlike the Kyocera, the blade is twice as thick on the blunt side which makes it difficult to slice things thinly.

    • knife for knife, Kyocera are 10x the price, lets compare applesxapples

      • +3

I'm comparing ceramic knife with ceramic knife, so that others will have an informed expectation on these "Incredible quality knives".

        • I'm assuming OP meant "Incredible quality knives" in regards to their price. How much are the Kyocera knives which you are referring? Less than $5.95?

        • +1

          @pharcyde:
The big price difference between the two still wouldn't make these "Incredible quality Knives", but "Incredible value Knives".

        • Semantics, mate. I think it's pretty clear what OP meant.

  • +1

    These knives chip very easily..

    • +2

I have found most ceramic knives seems to chip easily.

    • But u won't get a shock while cutting that cake

      • +1

We have electric cakes now? ;)

        • +1

Why else would they make non-conductive brittle knives? :)

  • Need a new set of diamond sharpeners to sharpen ceramic knives. Not worth the trouble if you have invested heavily in steel knife sharpeners.

Errrrr $5.99, use and throw out after say 12 months…

        Screw the environment.

        User image checks out.

  • Also, these knives are popular in Western Sydney as they dont have any metal so can go through body scanners easily.

    • +1

Most/all ceramic knives are made with a % of metal so that they wont pass security scans and metal detectors.

      • Is that a fact? (interesting)!

  • If you don't mind waiting for delivery, these are work considering:

Pretty sure they were posted on here about a year ago, have used them almost daily since then and they still work great (I did chip the tip off of one of them though).

  • +1

I pry stuff, crush garlic, chop icy meat and bones with knives. I doubt these ceramic knife can stand up to the abuse.

    • Not a snowballs chance in Darwin.

  • What will happen, by mistake if you swallow knife chip with food?

    • +2

      'What will happen …(etc.)'

Most likely, nothing if you swallow it (it will simply be 'passed out'). The main danger in the the scenario you allude to would be possible tooth damage.

    • As long as you are using knife 'dip' with the knife chip you should be ok. Badda bing' baddah bang!

  • Partner took it out the box and cut an onion, the blade broke from the handle within seconds… Can't find the dang receipt!

    • You should take it to Aldi for a refund anyway. Or buy another and use the receipt to return the defective one.
