Mod 27/10: Members have reported this promotion hasn't worked, see here. It appears that this might have only worked for 'existing Lufthansa Senator members'

If I am already a Gold member, how do I change this to President circle?

    • Ditto

    • +5

Edit your Profile, go to "Personal Details"
Add the provided code to CDP number
      St this as your preferred

  • +5

Thanks for this. It says my CDP is LH Senator. Is that president's circle? I used the code on sign up.

Also, is this recognised in the UK and Ireland? I will be hiring a car for a month there next year.

    • I would also like to ask the same 2 questions, although Germany rather than UK

    • +3

Lol you say +1 for the deal but you still didn't plus one it..! 4 hours and 51 minutes later!

  • -7

I don't want to rent a car Trump has driven.

      • +3

Putting in the CDP Number above of 501032
gave a new 'CORPORATE DISCOUNT PROGRAM' line entry of "LH SENATOR"
Which I have now set to "Preferred"

So I guess this will give the benefits when I next book a car? Hope it includes a better discount rate.
Not the process that I expected.
I had anticipated a membership level upgrade from 'Gold' to 'Presidents Circle'.

        • +2

Agree. Was expecting it to say something on the lines of profile upgrade. Mine is also showing as LH Senator. Thanks OP.

      • Thanks!

        • -6

          Thanks!

Don't bother to upvote the deal or anything….

        • +1

          @Maverick-au:

Considering it's cheaper with Amex Platinum it's not that worthy of an upvote. A few others have indicated this as well

  • Just brings me to gold. Can't seem to get to president circle

  • +33

    Guaranteed vehicle availability

I don't think they know how a reservation works.

  • +2
    • +2

Yeah this does say upgrade will occur shortly "The promotion only requires that you input the Lufthansa Senator discount code during the enrollment and that will upgrade your account shortly."

Perhaps we just need to be patient.

  • +9

I did this and checked a few dummy bookings and this CDP is significantly more expensive than my current CDP (Amex Platinum Card AU)

    • +1

…and the Centurion CDP is cheaper again.

    • Where did you find a CDP for amex plat?

      • I have the card…

    • I found it was even more expensive than just a regular booking.

    • +7

This is significantly more expensive than booking the same car through VroomVroomVroom - the same vehicle/same dates through Hertz is $191 on VVV and $527 through Hertz with this membership status.

Shows it pays to check VVV or other aggregate sites before booking!

    • Do you actually have and use a Platinum Charge card for your booking, or do you just use the CDP?
I wonder if Hertz could deny an insurance claim if you use a CDP you are not entitled to

      • yes I do - so don't know if I would work without that even by using the cDP

  • The best benefit I've found of presidents circles is the fairly frequent upgrades, also in the larger centres there is a bunch of circle cars out the front you can switch out to. We usually end up in something European.

    • +1

I was upgraded earlier this year from a Corolla to a Q7 on Presidents Circle.
I have only once got the car I paid for once in the last year and a half and that was melbourne CBD booked 15 minutes before hand.

  • +1

Only gives me "LH SENATOR". Is this correct?

    • LH Senator is a premium airline status (Lufthansa) which I guess has a side privilege of this Hertz Membership

  • +20

I have access to a Hertz CDP for a global corporate and I find that I can generally get better prices with Rentalcars.com and importantly their prices usually include all the insurance you need, notably a nil excess CDW. But do check, as this may vary. ALSO, rentalcars.com prices fluctuate wildly approaching any travel date, so put yourself on their mailing list and watch the quotes over some weeks to get best advantage. As an example, I just quoted the CDP price for a two week rental on a Hyundai Santa Fe in Colorado in December (we are making that trip). The Hertz price was more than $1000, the Rentalcars.com price with Alamo was $688. Same conditions. Alamo actually has a higher satisfaction rating than Hertz in that market. No contest!! Bon voyage .. :-) .. !! (Note: Rentalcars.com is a broker, they don't own any cars, their 'fleet' is all the majors in any market)

    • i need to remember this, thanks

    • +8

Good advice. Remember most times if you book a car you can cancel at anytime in the USA without penalty.

One trip I made 10 bookings as the price kept dropping each week that I checked.

Each time it got lower, so I then cancelled the earlier booking (10 times)

About a month out the rates started going up, so I kept the one I had

Always booked the second before cancelling the earlier.

On other trips sometimes the price dropped until 2 weeks out, other times 2 months out, so theer is no set ideal time to book.

Also check a class above, sometimes they are cheaper.

You can also save on Insurance (which is a MUST in the USA), by checking car rental insurance policies by third party insurers (Google this)

      • Were you booking through rentalscars.com as well?

  • +1

So this promo code gives you the privileges from now until 31 Dec 2017 ?

    • +1

Not sure, but the OP's post states

Members will keep their tier status until the end of the following year. For example, members who earn their tier in June 2015 will retain their tier until the end of 2016.

Which I read that may mean if you qualify now you will be a member until Dec 2018

  • +2

If I'm now the President …

Will Hertz hire me a fleet of golf buggies at Maralago? :-)

  • Nice deal OP.. except I just queried a booking for an 8 seater I wanted to rent next month and its still the same price as what I got quoted before without the CDP discount. :( Does this get deducted at the desk upon flashing the card/number? or is that the finalised price?

    • +1

You might want to do a check with a booking for a smaller car, as the discounts may not apply to 8 seaters

The op's post says upgrades dont apply to

This excludes Special Equipment such as Minivans, SUVs and Hertz Collections vehicles

And that may also be with the CDP discount

  • +3

Presidents circle. What a name. Lol

  • If it gets renewed on 1 Jan very year does this mean I only get President status until Jan 2018?

  • Yay I’m president’s circle-cized!

  • +1

If this really is the president's circle Hertz will be tweeting bad things about us tomorrow and we will all quit sensationally within a week.

  • +5

So this code makes it more expensive to book?

    • +3

Correcttttto! You'd be paying your rental Camry at President's rate.

  • Hertz is often too expensive. Recently I booked a Toyota Corolla for just over two days in Busselton, WA. $155 with AVIS or $198 with Hertz.

    • +1

Rental cars are a YMMV thing. Depending on when you book, for what dates, what car and which location.

For example, in July budget/avis wanted $320 for a week in Sydney for an intermediate (corolla) using a fairly good corporate code (underage fee was waived as well), whereas I ended up paying $175 from hertz. But in Melbourne last month, I booked a small SUV (ASX) from budget/avis for $135 for 4 days whereas hertz wanted $250 for the same thing.

The main things that I’ve found that affect price are; how long (hertz do weekly rates - it’s cheaper to book for 7 days than 6), coupons (free days or xx% off are the better ones), corporate codes (I can use my avis/budget codes and get the same rate 15-30 min before pick up, whereas the hertz code I usually use takes a fixed 5% off today’s best rate).

If you do make a booking (including those with variable discount corporate codes), then keep checking the price every couple of days/weeks and see if it changes. For my booking above (July/Sydney), the hertz rate change from $380, $330, $260, $200, $175 before it started going back up towards the original price.

From my experience though, Hertz cars are a lower standard than Avis/Budget (older, more damaged, etc) but not really a big issue.

  • Just my luck. Rented Sixt yesterday after long hard think about it. Could have matched this to Sixt platinum. Will try ask anyway.

  • +1

I loved this deal but it had expired by the time I had finished reading the description :)

  • +1

Argh!!! You need a credit card not a debit card. Would the OP put this at the top of the description because that was a waste of time :'(

    • +5

From my experience no rental companies let you rent without a credit card.

      • I use my mastercard debit card at every car rental place I've been to.. admittantly that's only been like 2-3 times but that policy seems abit silly, not like they know your limit, you could be basically maxed before giving it to them?

        • +2

I use my mastercard debit card at every car rental place I've been to.. admittantly that's only been like 2-3 times

They know of it's a debit card or not.

that policy seems abit silly, not like they know your limit, you could be basically maxed before giving it to them?

They do know if you can pay, they get pre-approval and that amount is blocked on your card.

  • +3

    Its a Trap

  • +1

Its not a free upgrade if your paying a more expensive price to being with. No real deal here.

    • Dunno who is giving the salty neg but you're completely right on this one.

      • -1

Right or wrong there are always going to be people who disagree.

  • -3

Dno if this is worth a Neg, so wont, but need a credit card to even register? why they not satisfied with Debit lol :(

    • +7

Dno if this is worth a Neg, so wont, but need a credit card to even register? why they not satisfied with Debit lol :(

Because they're not interested in dealing with children but they want adults who actually rent cars and return them.

      • -2

Implying having a credit card = adulting. I know multiple people who flat out have no interest nor need for a credit card. Totally unwarranted comment.

        • Implying having a credit card = adulting. I know multiple people who flat out have no interest nor need for a credit card. Totally unwarranted comment.

Not having a credit card is often a sign that the person has a rubbish credit record so why would you want to rent a vehicle to them?

Those that don't want or need a credit card will have to suck it up and make other arrangements.

  • Definitely more expensive than AMEX Platinum code… Anyway, I went to the US last week and after checking options for SUV, I ended up finding a Cadillac (premium LFAR) at Sixt (without any codes) for the same price that Avis and Hertz offered a basic SUV (with discount codes and Gold/Preferred membership).

  • Interesting. Might sound like a silly question, how do I cancel the membership and if I do cancel will it work like Google (eg. cancel but you still retain the benefits for the period stated)?

    • Why would you cancel considering it's free?

  • I'm getting a 10% discount on quotes for Hawaii.
Is it worth getting the optional extras like pre-pay fuel, liability insurance, personal effects insurance, etc?

    • +1

Is it worth getting the optional extras like pre-pay fuel, liability insurance, personal effects insurance, etc?

Unless you're going to post every detail of your life including your bank login details how can anyone answer that question?

You need to read up on what these are, compare against any insurance policies that you have and make your own mind up based on risks you're prepared to take.

      • +1

I did over hear someone chosing to prepay their fuel the other day. I thought it was madness, but I heard them chose a 1/2 tank pre pay option.

He then asked what about if I use more than half a tank. She replied and said it's ok, you still will only pay for 1/2 tank.

However, I have no idea what they charge for half a tank…probably $4 per litre!

        • I did over hear someone chosing to prepay their fuel the other day. I thought it was madness, but I heard them chose a 1/2 tank pre pay option.

People are lazy or don't bother to read so at the end of the day they make their own stupid decisions.

However, I have no idea what they charge for half a tank…probably $4 per litre!

If you work out the cost of an employee having to take a vehicle to a petrol station, filling it up, paying for it, returning the car, doing the paperwork etc it's probably not a large profit for the rental companies.

  • and…Don't forget Cash Rewards!!!

  • Anything to status match with?

    • If you have Velocity Platinum you can also get free Hertz President's Circle card.
Velocity Gold will give you their Hertz Five Star status.

      • Yes, but is there any other status you can get with this president's circle card?

  • What if i have existing Hertz bookings? Would i have to cancel and rebook to be listed as presidents circle for those bookings?

  • During the signup process I was advised my first booking must be from my primary credit card. I don't actually ever rent cars personally, only via work doing it for me on business trips. Will this deal be null and void for me until I actually complete a booking using my own account?

  • Has anybody noticed that when you book via Hertz gold the prices are significantly increase compared to when you book without logging in?

  • +1

I signed up to some Hertz deal a few months back, Im sure it was from here.

The best CDP rates I get comes up as "Okura" in my CDP codes - No idea how it got there. I don't even know who OKURA are? But it gives me around 15% off on average and one class upgrade. Also has always been cheaper than any price on vroom vroom, airportrentals.com etc.

The AMEX code was the next best at 10%. I also have cdp codes "Affinity entertainment book" in there. I googled OKURA and it comes up with Mariott CDP# 154080 & PC# 169680, but that gives another CDP listing as mariott…so I added that as well, but haven't tried it.

    • Are you at all concerned about using a CDP you are not entitled to putting your rental insurance at risk?

      • It's free to join Marriott rewards and the discounts are part of program so no issues

      • Insurance is via ANZ Black..

    • +1

I normally use the Marriott codes as well seem to be the best but now they have a world wide sale with
Discount/CDP/Club Code: 852223 And that saved me an extra 5% on the Marriott codes and a lot cheaper
I could find with all the other rental companies

  • +1

To all the people complaining about the price, you can have multiple CDP's listed, I have this one (to get back up to P-C) and the one I use for pricing which gives great rates, You can select the CDP when booking a car, just use the drop down to select your preferred one.

    • Thanks. I already have Five Star from my old Velocity Gold program and that seems to live forever and so I was worried that I would lose it once I upgraded to President (and eventually lost it by the end of 2018).

  • +2

Anybody's Hertz Gold plus account actually been upgraded to President Circle yet?

    Mine remains LH Senator

    • +2

Mine still says Gold Plus rewards. Would be interested to know if it's actually worked for anyone.
