"Simply Best Prices" - Predatory eBay store?

Has anyone else come across this Simply Best Prices store? They come up in a lot of searches and seem to have bought premium listings to so they flood the first page or so of results.

Their prices are inflated anywhere between 75% - 200% dearer than the competition.

An example search for 'tacky fly' (a well-known fly box) offers them at $100, which is nearly $70 dearer than the next seller!

I'm fairly good at filtering them out but it's kind of ruining the shopping experience. Is there anything that can be done to complain about this practice? I followed the bouncing ball through eBay's reporting tools but nothing fit the bill.

I filter lowest price and postage first so i dont see them.

what pisses me off is $1-$20 or something like that the $1 is always not the items in the title just some filler junk.

    change your sort.

“I'm fairly good at filtering them out but it's kind of ruining the shopping experience.”

  • I have been noticing them too and how expensive their stuff is but the big business logo in each business listing help me filter past them every time.

  • They're pretty damn easy to ignore, and I'm not sure what you're expecting eBay to do but whatever it is, they won't do it.

Have found some surprisingly decent deals from them in the past, but obviously 99% of the time they're sourcing the products at the going rate then lining their pockets nicely.

Holy shit, they have almost 10 million items in their store. Even if it took them 1 minute for each listing, that's 19 years to write them all up. Seems like they are fishpond.

You can exclude the seller in an advanced search like this

    • Well if they have 19 staff it would only take a year.

      • Yep, but that's still 1 year of 19 people writing non stop with 0 breaks.

    • They're given easier and faster ways to list.

LOL. You obviously don't understand how products are listed in bulk. Do you think somebody goes to ebay.com, clicks on on "sell", selects a category, writes up a description, manually uploads photos, sets a price etc.? It's all automated. Larger sellers may have a spreadsheet where they can pre-fill all the information (using copy and paste and macros to do it faster) while massive sellers such as Simply Best Prices would use their own product database that they can connect to eBay to mass upload their data.

      • Calm down, I figured that out after looking at a few of their listings. They just seem to use scripts to extract information from amazon and then dropship the items.

its fishpond operating under a Different name …….

  • Well, you know what they say about businesses like that, if they're bombarding you upfront with stuff like 'we're the best' or 'we offer the lowest prices', chances are they don't. It's pretty infuriating I agree, in the age where BS seems to be the common denominator, but in the end it's posts like this that will hopefully educate the masses.

It's sad, where my grandparents are honest, decent and hardworking people and they're not naive or silly but they still believe that you should be able to take people at their word, which just isn't so anymore it seems. I think a lot of people are really getting fed up with this sort of nonsense, where it's almost sort of like the business knows that they're completely BS but is completely unapologetic about it.

  • I purchased a nappy bag for $80 from them that came from the US and everywhere else were selling them for at least $150. They ended up sending the wrong bag then gave me a full refund plus free return postage. I agree with a earlier comment I too think they are fishpond using a different name.

  • They are not a very good eBay seller.

I'll explain why: Firstly, they know nothing of collector value. I ordered a Star Wars toy which I hoped to keep in its box. The item was packaged in a fold-up Amazon box and not a parcel. My item arrived damaged. I also noticed that the item came from Fishpond in Australia, not OS like the eBay listing said.

I asked for a replacement, and I boxed up the item in a decent parcel and mailed it to Botany, Australia. The workers made the mistake of assuming I wanted a refund, even though I said I wanted it replaced.

By now I had dealt with THREE different staff members, and with such an impersonal company you can bet that I got treated very vaguely.

When I expressed I was upset that I was refunded I asked if I could have a new invoice for the item, as opposed to re-purchasing it, as the eBay price had since risen. Any other eBay company would have made a new invoice, but this organisation's front line workers have been given no power to do this. They simply said it was not possible. They did not refer it to a manager. They refused to budge.

So, Fishpond seems to need eBay to complement their website, and in doing so they are offering a service below the standard you come to accept from eBay.

I'd say avoid them completely, but with the rarity of some of the items they are offering for relatively low prices, I am hesitant. I am just scared the next order I make with them will again arrive damaged due to their cold approach to the eBay business.

Well, now I know I shall not buy from them again.

I took a chance and they sent me a valuable Star Wars 2-pack in another flimsy, folded thing instead of a decent parcel and again the box of the item was torn. I kicked up a fuss and sent it back and they organised a replacement. The lady on Facebook told me they'd make sure the replacement was sent with more care, it wasn't. It came in exactly the same type of parcel and was damaged in exactly the same spot in exactly the same way.

I made a YouTube video explaining my triple-treat of damaged boxes as I was pretty fed up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2oQrq9MGXI
