Which Phone? OnePlus 3T, ZTE Axon 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7??

So I'm currently tied between 3 phones to get. I've decided to definitely drop Apple and get my first Andriod phone. So I've done a little research and I've come down to these three phones: OnePlus 3T (maybe OnePlus 5), or ZTE Axon 7, or Samsung Galaxy S7 (maybe S7 Edge). I'm hoping to use the phone for a long time, and basically use it wherever.

EDIT: The main reason I don't want to get the S7 is because it's roughly double the price of the other two phones. I feel as though the main reason I would want to choose the S7 is because it's very well known and stuff, not for the features.

I heard the OnePlus 5 has Wifi problems so I think I'll go for the OnePlus 3T. Also, storage isn't really a huge deal for me. I think these phones all have similar specs. I'm 90% sure I'll chose the OnePlus 3T out of the three options as it's cheaper and has the best specs/reviews. But I also need some help… What's with the bands and stuff? I've heard the OnePlus 3T doesn't connect to some Australian bands or something so I don't know what to do. Also, what about the models?? (A0003 A0010 etc) does it make a difference which one I get? Furthermore what about customer support? Because I heard since OnePlus hasn't really expanded to Australia there's not much support I can get if something goes wrong. I've also been seeing a lot of OnePlus 3T's with Dual Sims, so are they fake??? (Is there a normal sim version?).

Anyways, sorry for all the questions, I know it's a lot. I just wanted to ask on OzBargain because I want a more reliable (and Australian) response to the phones. And finally, for the main question, should I pick the OnePlus3T, ZTE Axon 7, or Samsung Galaxy S7???? Thanks for all your help.

    no brainer, s7
camera would be miles better than the rest.

I think all the cameras are pretty similar, but I don't really care about the camera too much anyways.

  • The ZTE Axon 7 over the OnePlus 3T, simply because of Band 28.
Axon 7 has a larger screen, more battery life, and front-speakers which are better than the S7.
The S7 has better cameras, IP68 ingress protection, and probably a longer support lifetime (accessories, community etc etc).

Overall, I'd get the S7 if its the same price or even slightly more.
However, you should consider the LG G6 it has been the best value phone of late 2017. Especially when people were buying it brand new for ~AU$500 back in June, and even now you can find it around the $450 mark.

With that said, if you use the OzBargain stinginess Rule:
    LG G6 = $450
    Galaxy S7 = $440
    ZTE Axon 7 = $400
    OnePlus 3T = $350
    OnePlus 3 = $330

…you should look into the LG V20 as well, quite modern yet it has a removable battery!
Just note that the more bloat/skin your phone has, generally, the worse experience you have with it. Which is one of the only reasons to get a Pixel 2.

  • I think the Axon 7 is great value at that price point.

    Pros:
Can do VR with the DayDream headset
    Great speakers.

    Cons:
    Camera is average
    minor UI annoyances

I never was a fan of Samsung. If you value a more vanilla android experience, I would go with 1+3

  • GSM Arena can compare the three: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7821&idPhone2…

In terms of specs, here's what I can see:

    S7 Camera - 12mp rear, 5mp front
    Axon 7 Camera - 20mp rear, 8mp front
    OnePlus 3T Camera - 16mp rear, 16mp front
    Photo comparison: https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=7821&…
Winner: The Axon 7 may have a larger photo but the S7 has more vibrant colours.

    S7 Display - 5.1 inches, 1440 x 2560 pixels
    Axon 7 Display - 5.5 inches, 1440 x 2560 pixels
    OnePlus 3T Display - 5.5 inches, 1080 x 1920 pixels
Winner: S7 and Axon 7 will definitely have a more precise display, pixels will appear sharper, etc. Both AMOLED

One thing I will point out is that the OnePlus 3T does NOT have expandable memory, so if that's an issue for you, axe it. It can be bought in either 64gb or 128gb variants.

However, in saying that the OnePlus 3T is the only phone with 6GB of RAM out of the 3. The other two have 4GB of ram. Again, unless you were going to be doing heavy loads of work on your phone, 4GB is enough, but extra 2GB could be decent. I don't see it being much of highlight though when comparing it to the display. Only 1080p so I don't see it using much of that 6GB.

Winner for me would be the Axon 7* if the camera isn't too much of an issue for you. It's cheaper. It has the newer Type C USB as well which means its futureproof for accessories without having to carry around an adaptor.

*Basing it on stats not real-life usage.

  • Update: I ended up buying the ZTE Axon 7 from Officeworks for $300 in a sale
