Place to Take My Mum for Christmas Dinner (Sydney)

Hi folks, I want to take my mum out to dinner at a nice restaurant. I've been working for a year while now, I've been on holiday, got a new computer, done a lot of stuff for myself but haven't taken my mum out to eat somewhere nicer.
We've been out to eat casually for ~$25pp but I want to spend a bit more money this time, ~$100pp.

Does anyone have somewhere they would recommend?
Cuisine - anything
Location - Sydney Eastern Suburbs/Sydney CBD
Price - up to ~$100 per person

Cheers guys - also please only recommend if you've eaten there and why it was great!

Could go Rockpool ? Pretty much guaranteed excellent steak. Neil Perry is an amazing chef. His new place in Sydney is meant to be good.

Cafe Sydney. You'll love the food and the view! :)

  • There's this Japanese place called HanaJurin in Crows Nest that does chef's special (omakase) on sushi. You sit at the bar table and watch the chef prepare all the sushi.

A little further from what you're expected to travel, but the experience is very different

  • Felix @ivy
    Nice food great service

  • A quieter, more intimate restaurant I would recommend is The Devonshire in Surry Hills. They do a Degustation menu for $95 per person and the food is excellent. It is an extra $55 for matched wines but the last time I went and did the course menu with the wine it was superb. The sommelier also knows his wines.
They also have an a la carte menu that is quite good as well if the degustation isn't for you but it usually ends up about $80 ($100 with drinks)

  • I loved Quay when I went to Sydney for holiday. I think fat chefs cook better too haha. The chef is Peter Gilmore of the masterchef Snow Egg.
edit: good on you for doing something nice for your mum.

I really like jazushi in surry Hills (near central station), never had bad food there and they have live jazz music.

    • Awesome fusion restaurant. Food quality is top notch! Unique factor with jazz music, too. I'm personally not into jazz, but I don't find it gets in the way of the delicious food! Plus you can always sit far away from the band in a separate section if it's not your thing.

  • Thanks for all your suggestions guys! I'll be looking into them when I get the chance. Keep the suggestions coming and if you have any more then drop them below.

    • I honestly liked the Star's new buffet.. great selection and what not and can walk around and do other stuff when your finished. Yum Cha at Strathfield is always good can easily reach $100pp too if that's your thing.

      • I'm looking for a more fine dining experience. I don't know what it's like at the Star. Still recommend?

        • I mean it's not fine dining in the sense that it is close and intimate if that is what you want I am not sure as I personally don't know those ones besides maybe a nice Italian restaurant in Leichhardt or Newtown but as far as quality goes its ok I guess.

Not too upper class but above local rsl dining lol.
