Group Buy, Vouchers, etc... Positive Experiences

I thought that I might post my experiences to date with these companies, because I notice that most of the discussion tends to be negative.

gold coast fishing charters - Paid $50pp (half price) for a deep sea reef charter, including lunch, tackle, bait. Had a superb day out and caught plenty of fish for dinner.

coffee club - paid $20 for $40 worth of food and drink at the coffee club. I had calamari and a couple of beers…Calamari was prepared perfectly, I was very surprised ! the mrs had a beef burger which was ok.

tangalooma guided snorkelling - Paid $50pp (half price) for the micat trip to moreton island including guided snorkel tour…. snorkelling was great. Deal also included a very generous lunch packed in an esky, with cold drinks. Complete bargain.

freestyle tout - Anyone up in Brisbane will know that this is a decent restaurant and it specialises in desserts. Paid $15pp for (1) select 1 of 3 pizzas (2) plus any dessert from the menu. Pizzas and desserts were fantastic. If we had paid full price the bill would have been approx $180… with the vouchers it was $75 !!

hoyts cinema vouchers - saved 50%.

I have not had a single bad experience to date with these discount offers. Next one on the list is a day trip to Tangalooma resort… $20 pp instead of $45 !

Need sub groups according to States and Cities!

  • Like most people I've had mixed experiences.

    Big lesson… book in early!

But since this thead is about positive experiences here are a few:

    1. Credit offered quickly by Ouffer when a burger place was shut down and I sent an e-mail requesting a refund (but why group-buy sites don't do it automatically is annoying).

    2. I ordered 6 dozen cupcakes from the Cupcake Bakery via 6 vouchers. Was worried that they might say I couldn't request that many at once. So was prepared for an arguement that it didn't say "1 voucher per day" on the T&C. Gave a weeks notice and all was good and the cupcakes even better (pickup early in the morning when still fresh!). Was I disappointed I didn't get to argue?

    3. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary vouchers were great. That was more good luck that a voucher came up that was valid in the period I was travelling to the Gold Coast.

    Things I avoid:

    1. Accomodation deals: unless you are totally flexible and your travel can fit around voucher availability I would stay away and just rely on other sources like lastminute

    2. Restuarants: always seem dissapointing. Entertainment Book has proven greater value and in many places we have gotten more value off than stated on the voucher.

    • Really? In Adelaide the vast majority of dining deals have been better than what I can get with the Entertainment Book. Last night I used a scoopon that cost $29 and I got a $28 bottle of wine and $65 of food and it was all great. With ent card I would have paid $93-$20(cheapest main) = $73. A lot more than $29. Admittedly, this was a super coupon, one of the best.

Anyway, if a coupon is great and they are also in the Ent book, all the better, I can go back for another discount. If the coupon deal sux, then I wont go back even with Ent book voucher.
Sadly, our current Ent book edition is collecting dust as I use my coupons.

  • I have also had good experiences with dining vouchers, however I wouldn't buy a voucher for somewhere I generally wouldn't eat at and that is where a lot of the bad stories come from (IMO). My dining calendar is also very flexible - if I buy a dining voucher I don't buy it with the intention of only being able to use it for a certain time… Actually that goes for all the vouchers I book… Especially beauty salons!
