Vivibright GP100 Projector Android Version US $179.99 (~AU $230.21) Delivered @ GearBest

250
GP100A

Hey Ozbargainers!

Been on the hunt for a projector with a high amount of lumens which has a native resolution of 1280 x 800, roughly 720p, also has support for 1080p. Found in a couple of threads in Ozbargain that people were quite happy with the Vivibright GP90 and that the new Vivibright GP100 the next step up.

Requested to get a discount code from GearBest:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335952?page=2#comment-5188….
They usually sell it for $289.13

From the reviews i read, the speakers are terrible so will be looking to connect some Logitech speakers.
The fan is reported to go up to 30dB-40dB so definitely audible, something to keep in mind.
Also looking into hooking up a chromecast or purchasing a mi box to make it a 'Smart' Projector.

  • Been Using GP90 for a month now, Worth every penny.

    • I've been using this
      https://www.gearbest.com/projectors/pp_340794.html
for netflix up to the ceiling projection

      • you mean literally laying flat on bed watching netflix on the ceiling ?

        • This is true life goals. Pls advise. Will buy your suggestion if you can connect chromecast direct to ceiling.

        • 100% Correct.

        • @Wickadz: Yes, connected with chromecast. You also need external speakers, the speaker of projector are not that good. We stream from Phone/Tablet to Projector, and Audio goes via bleutooth to speakers, or you can use Jack from Projector.

  • This or shall i hold off till the Xiaomi mi laser projector makes an appearance on Gearbest?:

I saw it advertised for abit less then $3k on their site. https://www.gearbest.com/projector-accessories/pp_660919.htm…
From watching a few videos it does look good!

      • +1

Yeah, I am super impressed. I am happy to put down 2K (hopefully after a code ;))for something that is apparently cinema level quality.

        • To me its a weird concept. It acts more like a sound bar (You put it next to the wall where you want to project it on)

        • @rakkihizoku: Yeah, I know what you mean, but I would rather have it in front of me than behind me and hopefully you can just connect it to the surround sound system. So I went to a friends place, who has this boss projector, to watch the cricket and seeing it on the big screen is so dam cool.

        • you guys willing to spend 2-3k on something with (almost) non-existence warranty ?

        • @rakkihizoku:

LG had a similar product a few years back - short throw laser - but gave up on it. Probably because they included a solid fixed frame 100" screen which made it a logistics nightmare. Also it was $9000.

          LG Hecto

      • Short Throw projectors aren't new, a few of the larger brands do it (albeit very expensive).
Problem that plagues all short throw protectors is you will get a light reflection on the roof. Not as evident when projecting with light in the room ,but if you try to use it as a cinema projector it may get annoying.

      • Title says 4K but the Specification say 1080p ???

      • you guys willing to spend 2-3k on something with (almost) non-existence warranty ?

OP just be aware that it "supports" 1080p it is not a 1080p projector, description states 1200x800 what is close to 720p. Having said that 720p, aka HD, is good enough for free to air TV and lots of other sources
Myself having a 1080p FullHD projector and looking close to the LED lamp ones, they are improving fast
    my 2c

    • +1

Thanks for pointing this out. For my needs 720P is perfect for what I'm after. Youtube on the big screen, couple of movies here and there.

  • i have a android pico projector

its amazing what they can cram into something so small, but realistically youre looking at a clear 30-40" image sitting average couch to tv distance away, forget about sharp text tho since its only 480p

good enough for cartoons for the kids. but only really works well in the dark

definitely would pay the same money for the GP100 to sacrifice portability

but with a pico one at least you can take it with you if you travel alot and it doubles as a powerbank

    • This is not really a Pico projector. If it does what it claims to do (3200 Lumens) then its pretty damn good. Not to mention the native 1280x800 res is very usable even for word processing on (arguably they still sell low end PCs with resolutions similar than this (1344 x 768 - 16:9 instead of 16:10).

      • re read what i said. im saying this is a different product to what i have for comparison purposes and that one should buy this one if they dont care about portability cause the specs are better

  • -1

Argh want one with similar specs & price but white colour.

If you can find one you're after, i directly messaged GearBest on Ozbargain and also wrote a comment on this thread https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335952.

They happily gave me a discount code.

A couple of bottles of Liquid paper will fix that..

      • But that will increase the cost…..

        • …stationery cupboard at work!! ; D

VIVIBRIGHT GP100 suitable for 97 percent of middle-income families.

Aww, is there a projector for the remaining 3% of middle-income families?

  • Is this a portable occasional projector, or is it good enough for people have it in the home as an alternative to an LCD TV?

(with the standard projector caveat of needing a darkened room). I'm OK with 720p, but would not want to see a lot of projection artefacts.

    • Definitely not portable. I intend to use it as an alternative to an T.V
With 3200 it should be okay to use it in a semi lit room as well.
Here are some sample shots: https://www.amazon.com/VIVIBRIGHT-Projector-Efficiency-Resol…

      • With 3200 it should be okay to use it in a semi lit room as well.

It has a ton of lumens, but you still need a darkened room, or the blacks get all washed out. The same as in a regular cinema when the credits roll and the lights come on. Would not want to watch a movie like that.

        • From the specificationthe ANSI lumens for this model is only 280. Can any one confirm?

        • @k0ka2:
Oh dear. Must be a 3200 (chinese) lumen lamp inside then. Avoid.

        • @manic: Did a bit of googling around. Lumens is ok for torch brightness but for projectors the accepted measurement unit is ANSI lumens.

  • Good price - thanks OP.

Anyone know of a good portable projector (pico/mini etc) with decent output for on the road presentations?

    • This looks quite good (e.g. compact, 1500 lumen, speaker, battery power, Bluetooth, remote control with air mouse, Android 6). It was around AUD400 plus few weeks ago. Been tried to ask this price but no response. Maybe they will consider if more people query about it?

      • At 2.2kg and 28.00 x 22.00 x 10.00 cm
        It’s not very portable.

        • +1

Silly me, forgot to put the link of the projector that I mentioned:
          https://m.banggood.com/AODIN-M18-Portable-Projector-3000Lume…
          It's 17.2x8x4cm

        • @siip:
Hey that's great. Definitely ticking all the boxes. Thanks!!
Only 743g, 1500 lumens and auto keystone. Very temping…

        • @OzBargin: It's 220 lumens according to the specs table under the description.
I doubt any LED projector at that price range would be more than a few hundred lumens.

I'm a school teacher and couldn't get a projector for my room (as the whole system is corrupt and u have to buy from a couple of suppliers who charge DECD whatever they want)..Anyway, bit the bullet and bought my own led short throw android based projecter via eBay for $250. Used it for 3 years, has been great. The only downside is many of the Menus are Chinese..Kids get a Chinese lesson thrown in for free.

So will this android version come with play store so I can install SPMC/Netflix easy?

    • Yep

    • Probably only 480p from Netflix. Better to get the Mi Box or similar.

  • I ordered mine early September, basic version was US $151, they had some issues getting stock and it took 5 weeks to arrive. Pretty decent unit, fan doesn't bother me that much, quality is good enough for me. The speakers are not good enough for a proper movie experience so definitely hook it up to something external. I've ordered a hdmi audio extractor and will hook it up to my home theater via optical. I also have a mi box attached to it.

    • +2

If I have a mibox, it there any reason to get the Android version?
It's working out at the same price at the moment, but I might contact the seller for a deal on the non-Android version.

      • +1

I didn't think there was enough of a reason to get the android version as I'm very happy with the mi box that already provides me with everything I need.
I've got a hdmi splitter so I have the mi box hooked up to both my tv and the projector. Saves me from having to switch hdmi cables.
Plus it gives me an excuse to buy another tv box at some point in the future when they are upgraded even more :-)

  • +2

Thanks OP, got one. You can also get the basic one without Android for AU$191.84 using coupon GP100B.

  • How does this compare to the GP90 (which reviews well)

    • One of the youtube reviews says forget about GP90 and get this instead.

      • They look nearly the same except for the colour of the plastic front?

        • There are definitely improvements made but not sure about the details, just saw from the reviews that it's a lot better than the GP90.

    • Here's the video review and comparing both GP90 & GP100 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwNpLKet7XQ

  • Thanks! Ordered the basic one.

  • Just checked, coupon still working!

    • +1

I expired it because they said they have no stock

      • all gee, lucky I tried anyway haha must have gotten more stock since then? I ended up getting the basic version
