Has Anybody Applied for a Brasilian Visa Recently?

I am trying to plan a trip over there and unfortunately can't wait for February to take advantage of the current sales. I'm seeing some things online saying the embassy in Canberra is quite slow (their website says 15 days), but other things saying they are fast too.

Has anybody done this recently? As complaints online go back as far as 2013… Some things I've seen also say it's faster and easier to apply from within another South American country which I could probably shuffle things around to do if I needed…

Anyway, just hoping for some other people's experiences with this.

Edit: Should have said, a tourist visa.

  • Went last year. Took about 10 days to get it back after sending.

    • Might be a dumb question, 10 business days?

      • just checked. Sent on the Wednesday and got back the Monday week (12 days total)

        • Thank you, I appreciate that. I heard similar from somebody else too, asking around has definitely helped.

  • I got mine at the border of Argentina and Brazil near Iguazu Falls. Took a day to get back when you submit it by which you can spend your day or two at the falls on the Argentinian side. Think it was around $30 at the time (prices change)

    • Interesting that it's so damn cheap there… Kind of hard to find updated info but it could be an option. I had looked at Buenos Aires but you need to book appointments weeks in advance at the embassy so hadn't considered Argentina further. Thank you

      • yeah thats why I went iguazu falls instead as I heard from other backpackers you can get it done quickly without appointment. Iguzau falls is a touristy place and it makes sense to have an embassy there for tourists to visit both sides.

  • I visited the Sydney consulate and submitted my application, picked it up the next day. Not sure if there is one in Melbourne but it should be the same process? I did not pay any extra it was just the time it took.

    • I did find one in Melbourne but it just seems to be one guy, I contacted the Canberra embassy and they said it's currently taking around 7 days to process so I'm gonna give it a shot and hope things go smoothly. Thank you.

  • +2

Prefer Tasmania instead of a Brazilian

  • Am I reading this right? $216 AUD for a brazilian visa?

    • You are… Brutal right?

      • That’s ridiculous. Jesus christ

  • Blame government it's the same for them coming here.

We got ours when we landed just make sure you have US$$ it made it easier, took 2 mins to sort out. (we landed in Santiago Chile first they did visa on arrival, then proceeded through rest of south America the processing time was much quicker)

People with other currency or cards only had a much more difficult time of it.

If your a dual citizen and can't run for parliament other countries have different deals i.e. UK passport no visa required or no fee to process it at least.
