Recommendations for a Food Processor under $200

I'm looking at getting a food processor in the near future.

Any recommendations for a good reliable unit so I can keep an eye out for deals?

We went through this process not long ago. After quite a bit of research we ended up stretching our budget a bit and got the Breville bfp800 when it came on sale. Honestly, it gets a lot of use due to the inclusions and power. The cheaper ones all had compromises.

My friend has one of these and I tried it for a week a few years ago. It looked nice and felt solid and well built but did not do as good a job, at least for the types of things I do, as my cheap Sunbeam (not sure of model number, looks like SFP-810W from google image search, now replaced by LC6250 for $89. I got mine from a seconds outlet in Ultimo Sydney for $60 about 5 years ago).

The biggest issue was that the top speed on the Breville was not fast enough. Things it failed to do well for me is pulverise linseeds and make smooth pastes like hummus and creamed silken tofu. Some people may say these jobs are better suited to coffee grinders and vitamixes but if my cheapie Sunbeam can buzz away and handle it then I'd hope an expensive device like the Breville would too.

This is my second Sunbeam; the first still worked but got a big crack in the body after years of abuse. (I've never used the blending jug attachment on either of them so can't vouch for that at all).

  • I like my Magimix Le Micro, small but solid unit.
