I've got harvey norman carpet in my house. The same carpet manufacturers supply most stores (eg Godfrey Hirst). Went with Harveys as they had the same carpet we saw elsewhere that we liked but did a much better deal

Harvey Norman is the retailer. There are other retailers such as Carpet Court, etc.

    • First determine the manufacturer, then the ACCS number of the carpet on the label at the back.

    • Then go to the carpet institute (https://www.carpetinstitute.com.au/classification/accs-label…) and check the excel spreadsheet if there are other retailers of the same carpet (same ACCS number), which will probably be under another name. Check the price to make sure you've got the best one. Check the star rating for how hard wearing the carpet is and if you're interested the environmental rating.

    • You'll want to understand about price vs carpet density (pile weight to pile height) which sort of determines the amount of material per unit of carpet you are paying for.

    • Make sure you understand what underlay you're getting - go for at least 10mm.

    • Price quoted usually includes installation (but not removal and disposal of old carpets), except the quote you got about laying. There is still some cost of laying built into the carpet price - the retailer has to pay the carpet installers and they ain't doing it for $99 for your whole house.

    • Note price is in lineal metre (3.66m x 1m) so depending on the size of your room and flow between rooms, there will be off cuts (wastage) that increase total cost. Once you've settled on a carpet, the retailer will go out and measure up your place and provide a total quote. You might be able to reduce total cost if you're prepared for more seams (joins) in less used areas.

    • Lastly, make sure you understand how warranties work (% per year remaining).

PS: Don't buy carpet based on just the $99 laying cost of your whole house promotion. Buy on total cost, for given carpet you like and select.

    • This listing of carpets doesn't seem to be publicly available anymore?
Can anyone provide a direct link or an older version?

Index of carpet names I'm assuming?

I'm after some 13143 "Nature's gift" from carpet court but man……$$$$$$.

We've had carpet done recently. For us it was more important to get the right carpet than to get the cheapest price. In the end we spent extra, but the carpet layers told us it was nice to be laying premium carpet for a change. The also commented that we had chosen the hard way to lay it (required a long run with odd shapes) but that if it was theirs, that is the way they would have done it.

I suspect that HN would not be using the best contractors, they'll be cutting corners somewhere to cut the price.

Our new carpet is sooo nice under foot!
