Just seen this on Voda website for $119 .

$10 cheaper than Coles promotion earlier this month.
Can’t beat Woolies $99 deal. But still good for 4G phone with notification LED, NFC and 16 GB rom for $119.

Android 7 makes this phone quite stable and good bettery life.

          @elektron: https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8572&idPhone2=7…

There is a bit of a difference hardware wise but the Nokia will be getting Oreo and is vanilla android.

        • @Hotkolbas: At a glance, it looks like the Sony, despite being a year older, has a slower processor (please correct me if I'm wrong), better cameras and a better screen-to-body ratio.

Besides, isn't Nokia now just one of the many Chinese brands? Not knocking it, just expect it to sell for less than the big brands.

@elektron: tbh the XA at a glance looks better in the cosmetic and hardware department, although the Nokia 3 is a entry level device and the XA is more a lower end of middle ground.

For starters the body is slightly bigger on the Nokia but both devices have the same size screen and aspect ratio.

The XA is a p10 Octo core and the Nokia is only a quad core.
There are Quade A53 s in both XA and Nokia 3 but the XA has an extra 4 cores at a lower clock speed.

The cameras are 13mp and 8mp respectively but the 1.12 micro pixels same.
The Nokia can only shoot in 720p although the XA can do 1080p.

Both have 2gb ram and both have 16gb storage expandable via MSD card.

The Nokia comes out with vanilla nougat and upgradable to Oreo, the XA comes with marshmallow and upgradable to nougat….. These are official but XDA can say otherwise like my note 2 n7105 running Android 7.1.2

Both can do the usual android wizardry, the Nokia has a bigger battery but the battery tests show that they almost are even despite the XA falling 300mA in size.

          Both devices have NFC

All in all the XA sounds like the sure bet winner and for half the price of the Nokia.

But for some reason I'm shifting towards the Nokia…. There are great real world reviews and Nokia are trying to be like the Nokia from the good old days.

        • @Hotkolbas: Thanks for the detailed and balanced overview - this is similar to the impression I got when skimming the side-by-side specs in your earlier post.

I'd probably make the more rational decision and go with the Sony. However, if you want an excuse to go with the Nokia, upgradeability to Oreo, to me, is a pretty big one.

        • @elektron: if I could find the XA for the special price of 99 dollars I would go that for sure but at jb hifi prices id go the nokia 3….. crazy I know.

        • @elektron: Unfortunately Voda charge $50. Have seen some overseas sites that charge $25USD.

Other good thing about the phone is the RAM, not many cheap Androids with 2G of RAM

  • So is it confirmed that there is free unlock? Don't really want to pay extra $50 for unlock…

Just grabbed one for the misses. Checked the unlock, and this one says $50.

Anyone experience eftpos paywave terminals not working with Android pay in stores? I can register a card but that's it.
It seems that others have had problems with it outside of Australia too as seen online.

  • So they removed the display model off the shelf.

    Going going gone.

  • My unlock is only $25, although the bootloader appears to be locked. Anyone know if unlocking the SIM will fix this?

  • my local vodafone didn't have stock, so I just took their catalogue to BigW to price match, which they did without a fuss.

people who unlocked their phones without paying, were you already vodafone customers? or was the phone already connected to the vodafone network prior to unlocking?

  • Can anyone confirm if this comes with the $30 credit?
My local store insists it does not come with a SIM, and the website doesn't specify it as including credit.

    • Yes - the rep in my store (Newtown NSW) insisted on giving me a new sim with $30 credit

      • SOB. The Perth store refused to give me a SIM card.
I called support line and they said it doesn't come with a sim.

        Grr

  • Anyone having problems using NFC on this phone. Bought mine this week from Vodafone and updated to Nougat straight away but find that it refuses to scan my opal travel card via NFC.

    • Mine worked just once (under nougat) . Then it suddenly was unusable. I wonder if it was the updated version of Android pay to blame?

      • That's amusing. My phone worked just once under Nougat. Then Boot loop.
        Hopefully the replacement fairs better.

    • my opal card scans just fine, both pre and post Nougat. Perhaps you didn't put your card close enough to the back of the phone? or check that NFC is not turned off by accident

    • Mine didn't work either. I was able to add bank cards etc into android pay but I was unable to make purchase.

I had numerous errors showing up on the eftpos terminal. The phone would vibrate a lot. Problems with NFC on this device. I would recommend anyone who wishes to use Android Pay to ignore buying this phone.

      • I sent mine back to Vodafail for repair so fingers crossed. Otherwise it is quite a good phone for the price.

  • None at Blacktown. Is anyone aware of store s with stock in Sydney?

  • Bugger mhl not supported. looking for a cheap phone with slimport/mhl support

    • Other than something from China, I suspect you will only find this feature on high end phones.

  • A $50 and even a $25 unlock fee largely destroys the value or at least the price point of this offer.

    • +1

Not if you, you know, only want to use it on Vodafone anyway

      • Yep,or switch to. I did this and am very happy with it. Not even based in a capital city either

  • The one I purchased was locked and asking for $50 unlock fee.
