Telstra Freedom Anytime Prepay plan - Cant pay on Play Store now?

So for the last couple of years or so I have been using the Telstra prepay with the freedom plus plan. I have been spending the $30/$40 "Telstra Credit" on the play store and everything has been working fine.

Until today, I got a rejected letter from Netflix saying the transaction was declined by Telstra. So I jump on to the Play Store to have a look and now it says next to Telstra under payment methods "Telstra (not eligible)"

Is this happening for anyone else? has Telstra removed Telstra billing on this prepay plan?

  • Hi,

    I tried to do a purchase a couple of days ago and was still working. One thing I noticed for myself is that I needed to have the sim in the android device (normally I have it in iphone). Is your sim in iphone or android?

    • Its in an android phone. But it has been working for ages under automatic payment. When you go into payments on the Play Store does it come up as a valid method of payment for Telstra?

      • Just checked and yes it is available, I am also on Freedom plus. Looks like all the freedom plus customers still have google play billing, have a look here https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2602974&…

        • thanks! yeah I just tried purchasing something and it was successful. I just cancelled the subscription and went through the process of setting it up again using Telstra Billing as payment method. I get Telstra (No eligible) and Visa-1234 (Expired).

          It looks like I can buy anything except netflix with Telstra billing?….

          That is strange…..Try a different android if you can. For example if I used my tablet the payment option doesn't come up, but it does on my meizu metal. I have netflix all set up and payment is due in 4 days, however I just pretended to restart membership on different email and the option comes up for me!

          Hey mate, I think I found the root cause.

          I was paying Netflix $11.99 month, then Netflix increased their charges to $13.99 a month. I don't think Google Play could handle this increase.

          In case someone else had the issue…

          I ended up stopping the subscription on Google Play, then when I got the email from Netflix saying it's been cancelled ( a day later) I then reopened my Netflix subscription. Then it have me the option to pay with Telstra, but obviously the cost was now $2 more than before.

          At least it's working now

          Thanks for your help mate

          @frazel:
          No worries! Yes it is now more expensive, so we need to make sure we have enough money for the subscription.

          Quite happy it is still available to us, so let's enjoy it until we can :)
