Looking for an Oversized Cup/Mug

Basically looking for a large cup but not too large like a jug I suppose although thinking about it now a jug would be kinda cool but no basically just a cup or mug that can carry maybe 3x a normal cup.. my friend has one and it's really cool and handy but he can't remember where he got it from.

Been trying a few searches and can't seem to find one.

Not looking for a thermos as they are usually harder to clean and also not microwavable.

I might buy a small cheap glass jug in the meantime but a large mug/cup/coffee holder would be great as it looks more classy haha lol than drinking out of a jug lol.

Edit: not sure if it matters but will probably order a few maybe between 3-5 if the first one is ok. I guess I could mix and match but getting a set would be nice.

  • Woolies sell soup mugs. Is this what you're after: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/432484/ins…

    • Yes thank you this is what I am looking for.

no idea where you are located but if you are in Melbourne, I was at TK-Maxx in Cheltenham and they had some pretty big ones. I remember one said at the bottom "equivalent to 1 Big Gulp"

    • Sydney.

Try to search the term "soup mug". That's generally what's all my large mugs are called.

    • Cheers thank you totally forgot about this search term. This is why I come to Ozbargain.

  • You are probably looking for a 'Soup Mug'. I bought one similar to this from Woolworths about a year ago. https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/432485/ins…

    • Will definitely have a check this might be the one though 500ml seems a little small.. I swear it was at least 750ml or a litre could definitely fit two normal "small" cups in it volume wise.

Saw this in BCF not really cheap but its pretty big

    • Wow nice this might be the one. Seems big though do you know if they maybe have a 750ml one?

      • No idea, just saw it by the counter when I was in there last. Definitely big though

I was going to suggest the same thing but this

        12cm Enamel Mug

Like a thermos is not microwavable.

        • Yeah unfortunately I saw that too.. enamel would be metal and thus not safe for microwaving :( bummer

    The Klingon's favourite cheapo shop - k'Mart.

    http://www.kmart.com.au/product/tropical-mug/1573802 appx 650ml.

Also comes in less horrible versions, but I left my sense of taste in my pants pocket.

  • I got this https://www.maxwellandwilliams.com.au/product/white-basics-h… as I prefer a taller profile mug for my grande morning coffee and for keeping it warm longer due to smaller surface.

Might score for classy look but perhaps not large enough for what you’re looking for.

    • Very nice mug it might do I'll keep it in mind.

  • Kmart's my usual go-to; otherwise try the Reject Shop/$2.00 type shops.

  • I bought one of those wide soup mugs for 10 cents from K-mart from that deal I posted a while ago (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/327254).

Although it might have approximately a 750 mL volume (which I've never measured, but assuming some concavity and pi(r)^2h is close enough) in practical use you would never fill it to the top in the microwave since you're sure to spill it.

As others have mentioned, one thing to keep in mind is that ceramic is just an OK insulator. It can't compete with a thermal flask or styrofoam, let alone those that are covered. If you're planning on drinking 1L of hot liquid you'll probably have to drink it progressively faster since half a mug has half the volume exposed to around the same surface area, making the liquid cool quicker. You might end up reheating a half cup which may defeat the purpose of having a larger volume to begin with (unless it's something complex to prepare).

If you don't mind cold beverages then larger alternatives are available (e.g. https://www.yellowoctopus.com.au/products/world-s-biggest-co…).

    • For what it's worth I will probably be using it for milkshakes and stuff and the occasional hot chocolate.. Might try a pumpkin soup in it once or twice but mainly for the milkshake and hot chocolate factor.

I already have my 1.25 L bottles from coles and woolies already for my water storage lol.

Just need something good for chocolate drinking.. which reminds me I should invest in a funnel but cbb lately on that idea.

  • Out of interest, what are you intending to use the cup for?

    Okay, you answered above.

    • Basically just to hold more stuff like hot chocolates and milkshakes the odd ice cream and such.

Also easier transfer and handling with hot soups. More space or capacity means more room to work with which is always a good thing. And just buying a couple for the house.

  • I really liked the StarBucks City Mugs when I was overseas, just the right large sizes, unfortunately not available in WA.
