4/6/8-plug power boards with surge protection.

3 questions in order of importance:-

  1. What is the ozbargain-acceptable price point for a 4-plug? 8-plug?
  2. If online/catalogued, could I please have a link?
  3. Just how many amps for surge current is relevant? What does that even mean?

Once upon a time, I burnt the motherboard of an American laptop from a power surge(though it was in China, using an American-to-Chinese plug converter). Currently remodeling my home office in Brisbane and feel like preventing such shenanigans now that I'm no longer on a student budget. Until now I've been using a regular 4-way board from Officeworks and to be quite honest it feels like having sex in Thailand with a lovely Danish backpacker girl using no condom. It's risky but it could be riskier.

I've seen ridiculously in-depth discussions before on this topic so I know you surge protection experts are out there.

  • Generally surge protection power boards do very little, so don't worry too much about what you have.

You'll need a UPS if you want decent protection.

    • Thanks champ, might look into the UPS actually, not a bad idea at all. A quick google shows plenty for under $100.
