Xiaomi Mi A1 (Global Version) - Missing LTE B28 (700 APT) Band? Big Deal in Australia?

Hi Everyone.

So I'm comparing this Xiaomi Mi A1 - Global version to use in Australia.

I compared the network bands available and looks like its missing the B28 (700 APT) LTE band on this phone.

Is this a big deal in Australia?

Not a big deal if you live in metro cities, and not a concern at all if your telco is Vodafone or a MVNO of voda such as Kogan. Voda uses Band 5 instead of b28

  • I live in Cranbourne vic 3977. How do i check if this band is an issue for my area.
And I'm with optus, which uses this band.

    • you are in rural area so maybe you will want a B28 phone.

Moto G5+ series is a good low price alternative?

      • Or I go with Vodafone/Kogan.

        I wanted a pure Android OS - Nexus/Pixel/Android One.

        So the alternative is a Nexus5x H791

      • Cranbourne is still metro..

        • Not according to Wikipedia, hehe

          Nexus5x

That's an old device, I'm not sure you want SD808 chipset either as that's a pretty power hungry chip that drains battery juice when it runs full tilt. No SD card slot and also haven't seen much bargains on it recently.

N5x was a great phone (I had one, which then bootlooped after 18 months of usage) and then sold it, got a S7 instead.

    • @ds4 go here and check your address https://oztowers.com.au/Home/Query
but i can already see cranbourne 3977 has good coverage on optus 1800mhz and 2300mhz 4G.
xiaomi a1 should work fine in your area

I use a Xiaomi MI6 on Telstra, same deficiency, never had any dropouts/issues, and travel around the Melbourne metro suburbs. Frequently on 4g, CBD 4g+.

p.s before you bag the A1, spend a few minutes researching the MI6, an absolutely amazing phone. Just a tip…

        • Thanks. I was looking for a phone ~$300. And wanted the a pure os experience. (Android One/Nexus/Pixel). I'm still looking at the Nexus 5x. Mainly because the camera is better on that phone (laser focus and f2.0).. Plus I can always use the Pixel Camera app port..
