Annoying Adverts in ozbargain

In recent weeks, I have become increasingly annoyed with TARGETED and AVAILABLE IN …… DAYS advertisements. They seem to be spreading through Ozbargain like errant shopping trolleys. They are everywhere. I'm not sure why they get airplay because they are not much use to the daily reader, who largely (in my opinion) are looking for a good deal at the time of reading.

If an Ozbargainer has received a TARGETED offer, good on them - but in my experience, posting it in the Deals doesn't help any other members. A waste of time in posting and reading??.

As for the adverts that tell of a Deal promised in the future (e.g.9 days time) - why doesn't the offer get posted in 8 days time?

Is it just me, or are others not impressed by these adverts?

    It's just you :)

Of course it does, many times I have checked to find I was targeted after reading a post.

  • I have become increasingly annoyed with TARGETED

To hide targeted deals in the future, click the hide link below the description in the deal and then check targeted deals. See this thread for more information.

So I can hold off buying today at the higher price.

Just to clarify, the future deals were always there. Except the blue tags for "Upcoming Deals" were only introduced recently.

Of course it's annoying but it does help in those situations where a deal may only last 2 minutes due to its popularity and you need forewarning to set your alarms and trigger fingers ready. I don't customise OzBargain but if an option doesn't already exist, maybe you can suggest an option to not show upcoming or expired deals on the front page.

  • Thanks to the positive commenters. They have been helpful and are appreciated.

  • The only TARGETED deals I have an issue with are the FlyBuys 10c off fuel posts. Given that someone, somewhere in Australia gets that offer every week (I'm basing this from reading the comments of those deals), and all who are targeted get the email, I'm not sure of the utility of posting the same deal week after week. Does it serve the purpose of a weekly reminder to check your email? I can't think of any other purpose it serves.

    • brings the posts stats up also ;-)

    • I'm guilty for the FlyBuys 10 cents/L discount deals; I posted two deals earlier this month.

Basically, it was allowed to be reposted every week because each week is a separate promotion. Also, there is an advantage to this. If OP had posted the deal, then that meant OP was targeted and eligible for the offer. Members would message the OP for their FlyBuys number so that they can use the discount. After that week has ended, the OP may no longer have that offer anymore so if someone else reposts the deal, members could message the new OP to get the discount.

I am no longer targeted for the offer (or that the campaign may have ended).

I keep getting a notification come up between the deals on the page asking if I want to sign up to the daily email alert.

Despite being logged in and clicking on 'no thanks'it still keeps coming up now and then asking me.

Any of the 'real' bargains that feature in a daily email would have been snapped up by the time the email comes through anyway!
