Adding Free to Air Outlet - Adelaide

Thinking of getting a free to air outlet added to my bedroom. Does anyone have any experience doing this in Adelaide? Don't want to spend to much money as I'm OK watching stuff on catch up, but it would be cool to have. Cheers.

  • It depends on your house and your layout but by the time you buy tools and whatnot it might be cheaper and easier to just hire someone for the one room. If you were doing a few rooms it might be worth getting the equipment and tools and having a crack. It’s not difficult, but it’s a fiddle and can be frustrating. I’m not sure if that helps?

Are you in a house or apartment? Where is the closest other aerial port? What are the walls made of? Do you own or rent? Do have built in wardrobes in your room?

    • what is roof cavity like re space, do you have underfloor access, what is you signal strength like?

per above, not enough info to add useful advice.

    • In a house. Closest aerial port is about 150m away. Walls in this part of the house are hollow. Own. Do have a wardrobe and this is where I want the aerial port.

      • I put a second aerial port on the other side of the wall from the previous one.
my house has crawl space underneath and the aerial cable just ran down the side of my house.

I disconnected the original socket, pulled the cable down and whacked one of these F-type connectors connected that cable to a junction box similar to this one

before getting under the house I wired up 2 short lengths of coax (only ~50cms from juction box) one end into the 2 new skirting board aerial connections and the other end to the F-type connectors. fed those cables through the holes drilled below the skirting board outlet and installed the skirting board aerial connections.

then under the house just had to connect the aerial input cable to the junction box and the 2 outputs. attach the junction box to a beam, and I was done.

bought coax cable from ebay or bunnings.
