What's The Best Budget Hand Bike Pump with Gauge?

Hello Fellow Ozbargainers,

I'm looking for a bike pump but I have no idea which one to buy.

It needs to meet the following requirements:
+ hand pump (that can be strapped to bike or fit in bag)
+ has a gauge
+ fits a schraeder valve
+ less than $40

Thanks
- James

  • Out of interest, why would you like a gauge?

    • To be honest, it's not for me. My girlfriend wants one with a gauge.

  • Joe blow is the usual response isn't it?

Aah.. You want a mini pump

  • This doesn't really help you but the ALDI hand pump I got for $12 or so is amazing. Gauge, high pressure/high volume mode, sturdy.

I would never ever, ever recommend the Kmart pumps even in an emergency. I hate myself for buying it before a 10 day trip and hate myself even more for not taking it back.

    • I think they've reduced the price. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Aldi sells them for $10 now?

      • I got mine like a year or so ago so I don't remember the exact price unfortunately. If they're still available and $10 I am willing to bet we will not find a comparable product with a gauge at the same price in an Australian retail outlet. When I was researching a year or so ago it seemed to be the same price to have a pump with gauge delivered from China.

I only used it on tyres with Schrader valves up to ~50 PSI but that sounds like it should be good enough for OP's girlfriend.

  • Sorry, I don't have any particular recommendations but…

The gauges can be a bit hit and miss for accuracy, but should be enough to train your finger-squeeze-test to work out what pressure you need.

Additionally, I wouldn't recommend a budget pump for high pressure road tyres (80-100psi). They are usually fine for MTB or cruiser tyres though.

    • Thanks for the info. I believe the recommended pressure for the tyre is 65 psi

      • recommended max pressure? It might not need to be that high depending on the tyre size and terrain you ride on. Lower will be more comfortable and unless you are riding on super smooth surfaces dropping the pressure a little can be better rolling too.

  • kmart had had double barrel foot pump with gauge for $10. Dunno if they still stock it tho. have one for over 3 years no probs.
