Best Way to Sell / Trade Original PS4 for PS4 Pro?

Hey everyone

I have a very old PS4 which was bought way back in 2014, and I think I need an upgrade. I really don’t think anyone will buy it from me on Gumtree, because it’s the very fist PS4 and only 500GB.

I was thinking about trading it into EB Games for this one.

I have all original cables, and box, but not controller. My white controller broke because I spilled water on it and now I have a silver one which I payed $99. Surely EB Games won’t notice a difference? The controller is basically near-new, and it is similar to white.

I also have a 2TB HDD in my PS4. I still have the original 500GB HDD, so do I just clear the hard drive and install all files from Sony’s website again if I want to put the original 500GB HDD in the PS4?

Thanks

If you're lazy, trade it in. If you want to get more for it, try eBay.

Also 2014 really wasn't that long ago.

Do you have a 4k TV that you want to utilise? Otherwise I wouldn't bother with the Pro until more Pro only games hit the market, and hopefully by then better deal will be available. The Vanilla PS4 will still sell, put it on Gumtree for like $200 and wait for a half decent offer or just be lazy and trade it in.

    • Yes I am getting a 4K TV soon. Maybe one from Kogan. Also one question does the 4K TV have to have HDR? Or can I just buy a 4K TV without HDR?

I might sell the PS4, its in good condition. How long will the PS4 take to sell? I'm looking around at other PS4's on gumtree and some of them have not been sold for months…

not every 4k TV has HDR function, and you want that function. It's just that good. i suggest to spend a bit more to buy branded 4k TV like samsung, sony or LG rather than kogan, you might be able to get more out of it (e.g. game mode, better colour, etc.) As for ps4 on gumtree, it still sells quite better than xbox one (fat one), throw in a few games that you dont play anymore and has next to nothing trade in value might smooth up the sell.

You don't actually have to tell people on Gumtree it's an original. Just advertise "PS4" and give it a bit of a wipe down for the photo. A bunch of people won't know the difference between that and slim, and just want to play PS4 games, not caring about the HDD size or anything. Just price it fairly and I'm sure you'll have some success (Gumtree level success, that is)

Another tactic might be to upgrade the HDD if you have a 1 or 2TB spare but this is unlikely to make up any money spent on the drive.

  • I sold mine last week for $300 on gumtree. 500gb with nothing but the controller and cables.

Bought a pro from the JB deal, used cousins woolies jb gc's. Sold the gt sport. Basically cost me about $85 top up to upgrade lol

  • If you still have not disposed of your PS4 you can feel free to use my EB World Card (I'm Level 4) for 20% extra. You'll need to supply your own ID of course.
