GearBest Forcing People to Return Items Overseas Even Though Return Address Shown on The Postage Label Shows Local Address

Hello OzBargain Family,

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with Gearbest when trying to return an Item.

I purchased some items off them… they were sent to me locally in Victoria. This was verified by AusPost with the postage details shown on the labels on the 3 separate packages sent to me.

This issue I am having is that they are trying to force me to return the items back to China when clearly they were sent locally in Victoria and the return address shown also shows the Victorian address.

Since my first message I sent them through their Ticketing system… I have always clearly stated that I wish to return the items back to the address as shown on the Postage label. The item I purchased was faulty … they made me check the other same item to see if the fault was there and it was… I then refused to open up the other duplicate items and told them that I wish to just return all the items and get a refund.

They agreed for the return of items but seem to ignore every message I sent them regarding the location of which to return the Items to…

If anyone has any advise that will be great…

I called up PayPal.. PayPal said that you can lodge a dispute but at the end of the day if gearbest tells them the address is in china then that's where I need to send it regardless if I have proof of another return to sender address.

I called up the bank in which the money taken out by paypal from my credit card and they stated to look at ACCC… However ACCC states that I will need to take it up with Chinas State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) ,Anti Monopoly Bureau, Ministry of Commerce,National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

so yeah pretty crap position to be in for a simple return… Literally the return address is 15mins away from where I live… the address is an Industrial warehouse so it clearly shows that they have local shipping.

I'm trying to do the right thing.. return the items back but I do not agree to be forcibly told to send the items back overseas when they clearly and proven to have sent it locally.

CHeers for any help/information on this matter.

None of these bs asian garbage sites are worth buying from.

  • AHHAHAHHA. Sorry saw the title and this had to be hilarious to begin with.

I think when anyone shops from an online China based shop they should expect it to be a risk and a one way voyage.

Confucious say: Cheap things no good, good things no cheap.

Unfortunately given that Australian culture has driven up the prices of real service and product astronomically, if you want service and product here you will need to pay an arm and a leg for it - unless it's some major that is screwing the most out of the assistants who don't know any better.

    • How dare we expect our workers to be paid a living wage.

      • I know. How dare they afford avocado toast!

  • Just had a brand new Xiaomi Mi Max 2 turn up from Gearbest with dead pixels, let's see how this goes…

    Gearbest rep, what's the go?

  • +1

The lesson here is, nothing over $10 from gearbest/$shitty_chinese_online_shop.

Still plenty of <$2 deals popping up from these scamers, and I'll continue to use them, because I lack honor lol

        paypal ftw

        • Paypal won't do jack for you if your identity is stolen.

        • @syousef: How will my identity be stolen?

          My GB account has:
          1. A unique email address, which is only associated with that service.
          2. A unique password generated by keepass.
          3. A fake Firstname, Lastname in the profile
          4. I checkout using Paypal and ship it to work, where they know that packages for "Damien" go to my desk.

          This is basic Op-Sec.

My identity is more likely to be stolen from stupid Australian businesses like Telstra with insecure systems running outdated software and sharing my details with random contractors and third party businesses which help them keep their archaic systems running, getting hacked.

Or companies like Equifax losing all our personal information (I know this only happened to their US customers) with no repercussions.

So yeah, legit question, how could getting cheap Chinese landfill from GB put me at any more risk?

        • @idonotknowwhy:

If this is your version of Op-Sec, you've got problems.

You just told me your real name. You've supplied them with your name, work address and paypal email. I don't think you're as safe as you think.

I agree that Telstra, who I recently put in a complaint with because they're calling from a number they don't list and asking for verification of identifying information, is awful.

  • I don't get it? What exactly is faulty here? Its normal for things to get hot when charging and on top of that the time reset after battery swap is normal in electronics. It seems to me that you ordered too much of a product you didn't want (i.e. change of mind) hence the lack of details about the items in the OP. Gearbest then offered you a refund on the condition of you paying for return shipping? I don't see whats unreasonable here.

    • I did give details on the specific Item if you read the comments and I also listed out the issues.

I have many cameras which they date & time don't reset… but the biggest issue is they battery overheating & unit freezing. Tested the cameras on request by GearBest and they all do the same thing…

Charging will heat things up but when It gets to the point when it burns you when removing the battery, the whole unit is extremely hot not just the battery and also the unit freezing due to excessive heat… then this is a problem and to me it is a defective product.

I have also listed the reasons why I was not happy with replies as there was barely any replies in regards to my concerns about the product… they also offered measly refunds that was not even the full refund and also gearbest credits of $5-10… I don't think you would send your items back to be refunded in such little amounts considering if you payed over $200 for the items.

So yes many factors contributed to why I didn't want to send it back Plus it was my first dealings with them in attempting to return the items for a proper full refund and not their crap excuse of a refund.

They even tried pulling a dodge through PayPal but this time they wrote it out in B&W that PayPal can see how unreasonable they are which will hopefully allow me to win my case.

this guy is having some problems with Gearbest. Honestly after reading the whole comment he wrote, Gearbest still haven’t replied but obviously seen it on their own post.

I have never bought from Gearbest, but after all these unsolved things I have seen involving their company, I would probably never buy from them.

  • When are you guys gonna learn??? buying crap from GearBest, Banggood, etc and expecting some customer service like JB Hi Fi?

When you buy some of their junk, yes some of the things can be bought cheaper than local alternatives, but PLEASE consider to remove these 3 words from your head anytime you purchase something from there: "RETURN", "EXCHANGE", or "REFUND" do not exist

It don't matter if they state 'local shipping'. all this means is that a massive container of this junk is shipped to some rented out office space where items are packaged and dispatched. It doesn't mean they have some shop-front with customer service.

Quit your whinging and go fork out a few extra $$ if you want service.

  • lol that address is just the guy that breaks open the pallet from China and pours all the individual packages into a postbox

    • its the shipping forwarder basically. not sure why OP is complaining o.o Most chinese sellors wouldnt even offer a refund lol. They would give a partial refund in the form of store credit.

      • +1

Yep after spending half a day documenting proof and video recording the problem they’re like “sorry about your $50 item that is completely DOA, we can offer a $5 refund or a $7 credit to spend”.

  • UPDATE: Paypal Cases

    Opened Cases in PayPal…

Case #1. They offered $30AUD for the items that cost me $80+ after sending the items back.
Case #2. They offered this time closer to what I paid for the item but then tried using their 45 Day money guarantee reasoning that If the package doesn't arrive before that Date I don't get a refund. (PayPal has already stated that their 45 policy is void if disputed in PayPal and especially If I sent the items with full tracking details and signatures on delivery) when they write things like this it will hopefully help me with my case. It shows you how even if you send the items back they can still try avoid refunding you.

So I don't think so gearbest… I will not be accepting your measly $30 Refund nor will I give into your demands that if the item doesn't arrive before the 45Days that I will not get refunded.
