Qantas Points Accrual Advice Please?

Hi all

My aim is to get 280k points to do the RTW trip with Qantas around Mar-2019. I currently have 95k Qantas points.

I was also a noob and decided to apply for multiple cards in a week after getting rejected for one. Apparently the number of credit requests in a period also matters and I got rejected for all those cards, within a week. This was in August this year.

My questions are:

  • How do I effectively spread out credit card applications over the year? How long to wait between applications?
  • How to best do this without affecting my future credit rating?
  • How can I earn 180k points in roughly 1.5 years?

Note:
- I cannot get another ANZ till Mar-2018 and another AMEX till December 2018

Thanks in advance!

The main problem is that if you want to travel in March 2019, you would want to book in March 2018 or thereabouts for award availability.

Accumulating that many points in 18 months is probably doable without much credit score damage, just do one every 6 months or so.

Doing it in 6 months is just not easily achievable.

  • I suggest you monitor your credit score, so you aren't applying for cards when you have a low score. You can use free sites like getcreditscore. Anytime you apply for a card it will affect your credit score/rating.

  • Don't apply for credit cards on a regular basis; wait for another AMEX 100k points deal to come up.

  • and in between the card bonuses, make sure all your expenses are on the highest earning card that converts to qff points
