Google Home and Automation Australian community suggestions

Hi All,

Is anyone aware of any good, up to date, Australian home automation (particularly Google Home) communities or website that would probably have the info i'm after?

I'm looking to do some home automation. Really keen on the Google home stuff as the support etc looks good but I'm struggling to find information on what z-wave controller I should get. I like the look of the samsung smart things for example but it doesn't seem to have been released in Australia. Would prefer something I can buy in Australia that I can plug in and connect it through Google Home. Not so keen on going full DIY (Home Assistant Openhab etc).

Thanks.

  • There's an Australian one called B.one but unsure how well it works. Supposedly has assistant integration.

  • these guys talk about a plug in Raspberry Pi solution preconfigured, that will integrate with Google Home and Vera

it's not exactly what you want, but maybe close enough

    • Got a pi or it looks like the ha bridge thing is java so could run up a VM. Http://bwssystems.com/#/habridge

Maybe it won't be that much effort to roll my own and I should stop being lazy 😀

    • So the domotics people use ha-bridge from http://bwssystems.com/#/habridge which emulates Philips hue where you were able to connect to over local LAN. Looks like it's broken as you now need to register on a Philips website in order to connect it all up.

  • I worked with an IoT solution for a university project with Phillips recently (IoT - Internet of Things, buzzword for connected household) and we had some lighting automation done.

There are some sparse solutions out there in the market, for example Phillips Hue and Phillips Dynalite for lighting systems. We used Google Home as a magical voice recognition machine, that sends voice requests to a webhook, and the webhook sends data to a Raspberry Pi, and the Pi does things.

Google Home -> Web Server -> Raspberry Pi -> Lights

Those I personally believe a house automation system is definitely possible, you need to be reasonably knowledgeable or fiddly to get things going at this day and age.
