Upgrade from Launch PS4 to PS4 Pro?

I know this is about as much of a First World Problem as you can get but I am not sure whether it is worth upgrading from my original PS4 to a PS4 Pro.

I've watched a few videos by channels like Digital foundry that often do comparisons of games on the different console iterations but I am still unsure. Has anyone here upgraded? I know it might be hard to say because you know you have upgraded, but did you feel it was worth it?

I only play the exclusive titles on my PS4.

if you have no issue with your launch PS4 then I don't see the point in upgrading to a PRO yet.

  • If you have a 4K TV, then it could be worthwhile. If you play on a 1080p TV, then I don't think it's worth it.

  • It's not worth getting a PS4 Pro in your case. If you had a base Xbox One, then yes.
But the base PS4 is plenty enough already.

If you had a PS4, and are experiencing some hardware problems, sure, you could update before your console dies.
But the improvements are still marginal, even on 4K displays.
I expect the same thing with the Xbox One X…. not worth getting if you have a functional base PS4.

I've noticed more and more people getting PS4 because the base Xbox One plays games not quite well, and the exclusives.
However, I have noticed equally people getting the Nintendo Switch as a portable console and having a dedicate Gaming PC at home.

This current-gen has been one of the weirdest ones yet in the history of the console wars.

      I certainly agree with that.

Well. I think I am just going to stick with my launch PS4.

      I appreciate everyone's input.

  • Not worth it unless you have a 4K TV, even with one the Pro tends to use checkerboard and upscaling instead of native 4K so isn't the full experience.
Since the console is still on a weak CPU, few devs put in a 60fps mode either.

    • If current consoles correlate with the lifespan of the previous consoles, there will be a ps5/new xbox by 2020 at the latest which is only about 1 to 2 years out. In my opinion it is not worth upgrading until then. The last thing you wanna do is upgrade in the 5th year of a general 6-7yr cycle. I would only consider a pro if my current ps4 died on me and the ps4 pro was only like $50 more than the standard version. Otherwise it really isn't worth it for a mild upgrade. If you have a pc with a half decent cpu, you could even spend that money on a gpu that will outperform the ps4 pro and you'll still have your playstation. I've read multiple articles like this stating we'll see the new ones in 1 to 2 years: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/consoles/ps5-release-da…
