PIA VPN Advice - Laptop Via Mobile Hotspot Security

Hi, just having trouble getting my head around PIA VPN and hoping someone can set me straight.

My situation: I have no landline so use mobile phone as a hotspot for running several devices and that works fine for us.
I also have PIA VPN on that phone/hotspot and when PIA is activated, none of the other devices work and the internet confirms this is the way it is.
The phone screen is to small to use effectively so I need to use another device.

No dramas, I install the PIA program on my laptop and connect that way and all appears fine, IP address shows as a different number and location when connected.

My confusion is this - while the laptop appears to have a different ip address and location, surely the mobile data provider would still be able to see whats going on as the original connection for the phone/hotspot is not encrypted via PIA.

Is this thinking right or wrong?

Your phone is acting like a router. Your traffic from the other device is going through pia thus encrypted.

    • So to dumb it down even further for me the mobile data provider sees nothing and I am all good?

      Thanks for the reply.

Mobile provider see your connection to PIAs servers - that's it. The same as if you had a regular connection at home with a wifi router.

        • Thanks for that

  • Malcom Turnbull is going after VPNs because of made up reasons such as child pornography and terrorists.

  • Hi
Can you recommend a reliable VPN or PIA whilst I am in China
I only need the VPN to gain access to my WhatsApp or gmail

No intentions to download any other stuff

    Many thanks
